Worry not, you didn't need to.

I would hope it’s meaningful to the creator or why else would the art be displayed or viewed by others. I sure don’t display my work which is not meaningful to me.

Because most people need to work for money.

I feel sorry for those that create art which is not meaningful to them just so they can make a buck. I really think this number is extremely small as the artists I know are proud of their work.

Intention versus reaction is a fascinating conversation. After spending years or decades in a particular art form, it seems as though both just sort of blend together. Whether the person intends to or not, a lot of what that person thinks about themselves, people in general or the state of world slowly begins to creep into when they choose to push the shutter. Personally, I think anything that provides insight into how others interact with 'their world' is interesting.

Were Vivian Maier’s photographs meaningless or irrelevant before they were discovered? Were Eugene Atget’s ? Who is to say what is relevant or meaningful or who they are meant for?

These questions were answered in the quotes from Gombrich and the discussion thereon — about a year ago, which you'll see if you read the thread.

Someone else brought this thread back. I read enough of it, just giving my opinion. Isn't that what a forum is for?

Do your opinions always take the form of questions? <-- This is a question, not an opinion.
