A huge solar flare last week gave some of the Midwest and down into Maryland a nice array of the Northern Lights. I was able to grab a few shots but this one was the best.

This will be the 4th time in 20 years the Aurora came this far South Steve! Real dark skies help with the colors. It has to be seen to really get the chills Steve! Read my comment to Morris below.
Thanks!

Very nice Dan'l. The wife wants to travel untold miles to see this, my point is...it will be a case of "you should have been here yesterday"

Well you and your wife missed an opportunity Douglas. They appeared in your town as they did here.
Here is an article from your newspaper with a photo.
Thanks!

This is sweet Dan and getting red is impressive for so far south.

Thanks morris!
Being this far south, we have indeed had a few times a solar flare created a great night sky. It did so here.
When growing up in Iowa, my father's family had a cabin on Lake Vermillion in the North Woods of NE Minnesota. These were a frequent "visitor" in my summers spent there as a kid.
I did not again see this until in the 21st century. It is quit breathtaking when the "falls of light" appear as shimmering waves across the horizon..pulsing in intensity and brightness.
If I get the opportunity again, I am going to try the camera's video(5DSr or 1Dx).

Outstanding Brother Dan.👍
Thanks brother!
Read my comment to Morris.....Your area should have seen them in a dark sky area.
I get updates on events like these on the NOAA and Astronomy sites I visit.
Also the local media weather person made a statement about the solar flare!

Meade LX200 10" SCT- Had nothing to do with aurora

Dan, what an experience to witness this rare phenomenon. Bravo 👏
All the previous views had a very slow shimmering of the light wave frequencies. This had them very frequent..as in a video. I would like to try a video if they appear around here again. The movement of the "sheets' of color" pulsating take your breath away!
Thanks!
