Being this far south, we have indeed had a few times a solar flare created a great night sky. It did so here.
When growing up in Iowa, my father's family had a cabin on Lake Vermillion in the North Woods of NE Minnesota. These were a frequent "visitor" in my summers spent there as a kid.
I did not again see this until in the 21st century. It is quit breathtaking when the "fails of light" appear as shimmering waves across the horizon..pulsing in intensity and brightness.
If I get the opportunity again, I am going to try the camera's video(5DSr or 1Dx).
