Looking good!

I'll personally stick to my black ZF but may have chose a silver version if I were to buy new today.

Cheers,
Bernard

Nikon will also add film grain to jpeg engine in later firmware update. Not sure it will be Zf exclusive

I had missed that. Nikon is knocking user feedback out of the park.

A Film Grain Feature for Film-Like Expression
A future firmware update for the Nikon Z f will offer the new Film Grain feature, which adds grain to photos and videos. Users will be able to achieve more creative imaging expression in accordance with the scene and their intent by adjusting grain size (3 options) and strength (6 options). By combining this feature with Imaging Recipes, (downloadable imaging presets created by Nikon and creators) and Picture Controls, users will enjoy film-like expression tailored to their personal and creative style. This update is scheduled for release within 2025.

From the press release, it seems they are aware that getting the looks right is only half the achievement, you also have to get the feel right. That’s something that Fuji never really managed with the X-T series - always felt a bit plasticky compared to actual film cameras. To be seen if Nikon succeeded there (they did with the black version, but imo silver is harder to get right)

Would be nice if the firmware update also added full UAC/UVC support, which the Z5iii has but the Zf doesn’t.

Excited for the film grain, I loved playing with it on Fuji. Had some really nice in-camera looks dialed in.
The silver looks good, and more options for the buyer is always a plus.
I would love more custom button options- like being able to change the mag+ button to jump to 200% then back out to zero, for example. Or assigning the same functions in video mode as photo- why can't I have highlight priority metering on a button in video mode?

Looks awesome. Wish they had sepia brown as a choice on silver.

They do, according to the Nikon website.

I hadn't realized there were so many colorways for the zF. I dig the silver and sepia.

From the front, yes, but the back looks even more craggy to me than the black version. It looks like it was patched together.

Hmm, it could be the perfect match for a Thypoch 28/1.4 in silver or my CZJ Biotar 58/2 Pre-Set.

I have the previous version of that Zeiss Biotar and I was thinking the same.
I bought my Nikon Zf in Jan, I don't need another camera, (well maybe a Z8ii eventually) but I love the look of these and you are right, I have several old silver primes that are crying out for this camera.
Looks like I need to start saving, the Zf is small enough that I could fit 2 into my EDC bag, my existing one with a 28mm and a nice silver version with the 58/2

Damn you Nikon, I was perfectly happy until today :-)

edit - tough choice between the stone grey and classic black, my existing ZF was the blue which I love

I'm happy with my black version, but these do look great! Will be interesting to see how the grain control works.

I thought feedback was "Give us z7 III, or smaller z8, and give it yesterday"
It is a nice looking camera though.

They sure did not ask for my feedback.
Cameras are tools and form should follow the function. We used to pay extra for black back in the day. Nobody wanted an obtrusive camera or reflections on the subject.

Opposite to the ZFc release order, which was silver first, then some weird stuff and black last.

I like the look of some of these colors, good to see some whimsy from Nikon. Also, I prefer black and understated for myself.

Unfortunately, the retail price, at least here in the EU, is significantly over the top.

Nikon is asking €2,499 for the black leather version at launch, and the versions with colored leather are likely to cost even more.
Even though the prices are not directly comparable, because EU prices always include a mandatory VAT of 19-20%, does that correspond to a equivalent of $2,910.

That's €700 more than the black Zf version and almost €900 more than a Z5II.
That's very, very steep.
A Z8 is available for €3499, a Z6III for €2049, a Z5II for €1649, and the black Zf for €1799.
So the price has to drop significantly first; otherwise, the silver Zf is simply overpriced.

TECHNICALLY my feedback was "put the Z7ii sensor in a Zf body"...

Only the first one doesn't look kitsch.

It's the price that those who care about aesthetics but have bad taste have to pay
retro + kitsch: guys in Tokyo are going crazy.

Personally, I think a few look ok, but I'd likely stick to silver+black or silver+gray. I suspect one of these will be in my future in another 18-24 months. I still love my FE2 and F3 bodies, and long have awaited a Zf, but didn't want black. I'm enjoying my Z8 tremendously but do also love the output of the 24mp sensor and it would serve as a handy Expeed 7 backup to the Z8 while also being a very fun change of pace with my manual lenses.
