p.1 #1Sadhu on the Ganges
Congratulations to charley5 for winning Feature Thread of the Week with 5 votes - View Previous Winners
I had taken many images of sadhus as we ferried them from Varanasi, across the Ganges River. This is one of my favorites. He was in a meditative state and basically ignored me. He later did yoga to deal with the early morning cold. These fellows endure all kinds of privations.

The Eastern cultures present a very broad section of religious adoration IMHO Charles. It takes great discipline for these people to segregate themselves from the normal society. I like discipline!
Thanks for the trip!

So right, Dan. It really takes a special kind of person to be an ascetic. This is something that is way beyond the Western mindset!

Thanks so much. The atmosphere along the Ganges is very ancient and deep. I think it changed my life.

It really is. He was freezing the whole while. I offered him my shawl, but he refused it.
