I had taken many images of sadhus as we ferried them from Varanasi, across the Ganges River. This is one of my favorites. He was in a meditative state and basically ignored me. He later did yoga to deal with the early morning cold. These fellows endure all kinds of privations.
The Eastern cultures present a very broad section of religious adoration IMHO Charles. It takes great discipline for these people to segregate themselves from the normal society. I like discipline!

So right, Dan. It really takes a special kind of person to be an ascetic. This is something that is way beyond the Western mindset!
