$168 isn’t a bad price to try this lens, but if you’re after something compact and affordable, the Zony 35mm f/2.8 can often be found used in the same range—or slightly higher. It’s an older lens, and buying used can be a bit of a gamble since some copies were noticeably soft.
Is the rendering on this one good enough to make up for its AF quirks? I do like the images posted in this thread. I’ve owned the Sigma 45mm f/2.8 twice, and AF-C was so unreliable I ended up selling it both times. I’m tempted to pull the trigger here, but not if the autofocus is anything like the Sigma's.

Thank you, I did the update I dunno it was a weird process for me. It's on one of them now, it still says it's the beta though I think I used the official one. It's fine.
I remember reading someone had issues with it showing up on their pc when connected, I had to plug it in via the monitor which acted like an extender. Something electrical probably, most likely to do with the lens, rather high end new motherboard here and plugged it in directly via usb-c to usb-c. But anyway, try an extender, maybe even a usb extension cable if you're still having issues.
After transferring the file it duplicated the drive, something I've never seen before. The file also disappears when you refresh, but it's still there when you re-transfer (gives an overwrite warning)... it generates a text file that mentions the version number, mine still says the beta version there even though I transferred the official one over it a few times. Hopefully it's because they both were labelled as version 02, but who knows. I would do eject drive like I usually do and it would popup saying safe to remove, but it still shows up in the list...duplicated.
Whatever, it seems to be focussing at f8 in low light with the 5 mins I spent on it. Was getting a lot of false positives on my sony doing the testing between various firmware but that could have been user error in not knowing how the AF works when using magnifine and the spot vs moving the square around. Changing it to wide mode, focussing and then confirming with the magnify showed it working but by that point I had switched firmware like 4 times and settled with whatever it's on now.
Love that preset you made btw, RoamingScott, lovely images. I also picked up their 75mmf2 as well when they had a decent sale after seeing your shots with it while I was interested in exploring 75mm. I read the posts about needing to smack that lens if the af gets stuck. Good stuff xD.
Anyway, great shots with this lens in here folks. Thanks.

Same issue as me, tho I didn't have any duplicate drives. I'd suggest that anyone having connection issues try an A to C cable and/or going thru a hub, don't just try every random cable, I don't think it's a cable issue per se... I think the lens might simply not like straight USB-C to C connections on some instances.
Extensions are actually not supposed to be a thing with USB-C (there should be no female USB-C cables and it's not sanctioned by the standard), but I think you mostly meant the fact of going thru the monitor as a hub. USB-C ports could default to 5V 3A and it just doesn't like that...
A to C cables and other hubs might clamp that current lower (A to C cables are in fact supposed to have a resistor for this).
Really nice Scott. I like these lots. Just bought this lens. Will try to learn how to post samples on here someday.
Do you use any other len's vignette correction in Lightroom? That's been my main observation so far. Played around with the Voigt 40mm f/2 one, but this one seems to have a different shape.
Cheers

It has its own LR corrections for vignette only, not distortion, and I use that.
Thanks Craig. I go back and forth on this lens, particularly with a series like the camper…the rendering can get harsh quickly in complicated environments and the guitar pick bokeh is a choice…not really something I want as default behavior.
On Nikon, we have very few choices for lenses with aperture rings, so that one feature elevates it considerably.
I still don’t think this lens approaches the IQ or rendering of the TTA 75/2 unfortunately, which is truly a no-compromise lens at the price.

Great images Scott. That set in the forest with the camper trailer is stunning.
I'm sure you'll be helping sell many of these lenses for TTArtisan. I know you have me considering it for my A7C lol
First time taking a ferry ride, Seattle to Bainbridge and back. The return ride was full of Mariners fans heading to the game, was such a fun atmosphere and so unlike anything down here in the south. I enjoyed the people watching as much as the hot pretzel
