RX1 was / is still a stunner. RX1R even more so. At used prices today, likely the best value in any format if one needs a compact camera with no compromise in IQ. At this size, price and weight, there is no other option The OG Leica Q is a close second esp at some of the used sale prices I saw on this forum. Obviously, not as compact.

I think Sony did a decent job holding the line on the price of this camera. A controversial opinion I know. If I had the money to spend, the specs for the RX1r III are not an issue for how I shoot. But adjusting the RX1r II price to 2025 USD equals about $4500. If you take the Canadian price ($6300) of the RX1r III and convert it to USD it's $4600. Just an observation.

yeah, sadly nothing really compares to the rx1. i have an a7cii and use it with my favorite 35s, both tiny and large. some of the lenses are better than the rx1 lens in some aspect e.g. the c/y 35/1.4 is better for portraits at a certain distance, the lux pre-asph has it's distinct glowy character, the FLE and zm 35/1.4 might be a little better for landscape. none of them is as good at everything though and none can come close to replicating the rx1 lenses distinctive look. when i go on a trip the rest get left at home and the rx1 goes in my camera bag as my 35mm, it's the same size as my second choice anyway: http://live.staticflickr.com/3804/13482260864_cdf7c19c91_o.jpg
plus the rx1 is small enough that it is what i take for a casual walk or for use while skiing, which i can't do with the RF or Q. ...Show more →
For those that really want that look and package, used RX1s in great condition can be had for $1,000. Rx1R IIs for around $2K.
I can’t see anything in this one that would make me want to spend the extra $3,000.

Fair. But, again, Jared is Jared - he is his brand. So, you get what you expect. There are dozens and dozens of folks doing dry lists of specs and moderate opinions so as not to piss off the camera cos; I think it's fun to see someone actually speak their mind now and then.
I've never got the sense he's actually speaking his mind. He's speaking what will get him the most clicks (clickbait/ragebait). Those are very different things. One is principled. The other is opportunistic. Opportunistic can still be fun and entertaining of course, but it isn't necessarily any less disingenuous than suppressing your true opinions to avoid pissing off camera companies.

The latest AF and the 60mpix sensor is what has me looking at this camera. The extra pixels will allow me to carry a single focal length and yet crop to other focal lengths if need be.

too my mind the big advantage (as yet untested) of the rx1riii versus the rx1rii is for taking pictures of people (especially kids) running around. if the new rx1 has the fast AF tracking capabilities of the a7cr that will be a dramatic increase in it's abilities. unfortunately it also comes with the disadvantage of no flip up lcd which makes framing those same types of shots more difficult. i'm sure the new evf is a bit better than the old and the improved batter life will be great, but i really think the AF would be only reason to bother upgrading from the previous version.

All this talk of having to bend over to take a shot because of a lack of a flip screen. The Japanese engineers probably can't conceive the Americans' lack of mobility and obesity.

The number of shots I’ve taken with my arms as high as they go while climbing on something with the RX1R II or awkwardly underneath something is pretty darn high. I have laid in the dirt with the thing and climbed trees with it.
I don’t think it’s a question of mobility, I personally found the tilt/flip up/down screen to be awesome for exploring creative shots.

At the 5:15 mark he starts talking about digital stabilization in photos. I'm not aware of a Sony camera that has that feature. Is what he said accurate? Wonder if it only works in JPEG mode or some other gotcha.

Yeah, other videos said this too. But this is the first one where someone seems to have the camera in hand, which probably makes a bit of difference in the review quality.

Funny I was browsing this thread with passing interest, now I may pick up a Fuji X100VI after doing some research! $5000 is too rich for me.
If your coming from a recent Sony camera Fuji's AF may be frustrating. At least it was for me with the X100vi. But what each of us find acceptable is different of course.

I emailed my rep. I also asked him to confirm that there is no weather sealing.

I wonder if that’s a function of the digital-zoom, the camera can be cropped in two times to get different focal lengths, my guess is when this is turned on that only part of the sensor is being used so if the image moves around it can measure that change to provide a kind of steady-shot.
If correct, it would only work when the image was being cropped in.
