p.6 #1 · Leica's Battery Shortage Is Hurting the Brand!
Pretty much every camera company out there has failed in some way to support older cameras in their lines. Some completely change their bodies so all the old lenses become obsolete. Many stop repairing and quit making parts for older models. None have clean hands in this.
This battery situation from Leica needs to get sorted. If they no longer have the desire or ability to make batteries for older models like the M 240 or M 10 series they should allow others to step up.

I agree that a thread on Leica battery shortage is an important thread and should exist.
Wasn't aware of the shortage and as someone who has 3 different M bodies requiring different batteries the last thing I need is not to be able to use it because my batteries died. Yes I have backups for each battery type but eventually they will die out.
Unlike other brands digital Leica M bodies all the way back to the M8 remain in use. Regretfully Leica changes the battery style with each new generation of M, where as Canon, Sony and Nikon tend to keep the same style for certain lines for a longer timeframe. I can use the same battery from my long departed Canon 5D in my R5 MKII. Through how much demand is there for a 5D? or a Sony A7?
Leica may not sell as many M's as Sony,Nikon or Canon does but the M's tend to have a loyal following no matter which M body it is.
Batteries are important for a fully functional camera.
Thank you Fred for starting this thread. It is important

I think you have a minor misunderstanding of another member's post--no one has said the thread wasn't important or worth having. The point of the other post was that it was a mark against Leica that such a thread was necessary--in other words, the other member was making the same general point about Lecia and batteries that Fred was making.

No misunderstanding. I did not reference anyone else's post I only made a statement on the thread existance itself in that
"I agree that a thread on Leica battery shortage is an important thread and should exist."
If I was referencing another person's post I would have done a reply to it.

Here's Leica's response to my service request regarding the BP-SCL2:
The Leica brand stands for high-quality premium products ‘Made in Germany’ that guarantee long -
lasting quality and a first-class product experience. In order to ensure the long-term and reliable
usability of Leica products, the company is committed to ensuring the availability of essential
accessories and spare parts over a long period of time.
This also applies to the availability of battery models for Leica M cameras. The continuing high
demand, especially for the Leica M Typ 240 battery, confirms not only the quality and durability of the
Leica M system, but also once again the trust of our customers in its reliability.
We therefore regret to inform you that despite our intensive efforts and close co -operation with
reliable suppliers, the battery for the Leica M (Typ 240) is currently not available.
We assure you that we are working at full speed on solutions to improve the situation as quickly as
possible and to ensure availability again. We will of course keep you informed of the latest
developments.

For me it's quite difficult to understand their way of dealing with this situation.
In January I got, basically, the same reply from two "official" Leica stores. I have asked them, specifically, to put me on a waiting list for when the M240's baterry (whatever they will call it, original or spare part) will become available. I heard nothing from them, since.
But, also since then, I have bought 2 new baterries, at different times, from Leica Boutique Antwerpen. Without much fuss, I just dropped them an email and they have sent me the baterry when they got it (from where?).
