Oystercatcher
FW4.0 doesn't seem to have affected the A9III AF accuracy. 100% hit rate on 290 frames taken at 60fps. At 60fps it feels like you have an unlimited buffer.
The subject detect all seems to stay on the subject even in tricky situations like when the oystercatcher dips just before jumping up. Lots of shiny highlights to distract .

As long as you can sit still for long enough they eventually just ignore you and you have a good chance they will come close enough to fill the frame. It’s a whole other story trying to get up though… Now I just need to find a way to be able to follow them from a slightly lower position but once your elbows are on the ground it’s game over - even with a ground pod its near impossible. 10:0 to the stints!
Shutter speed needs to be very high though. The 300 f/2.8 comes into its own here - I think it would be tough trying to do this with a 600 f/4. ISO1250 f/5.6 1/5000s
