Close focusing ability is a big deal for what I shoot - that's why I sold off all of my Nikon Z gear. The OM system is nice, but I soured on it when my brand new 150-400mm f4.5 died the first week I had it.
I find the Sony 100-400 and 200-600 lenses are a nice compromise - they focus reasonably close, are sharper than the Nikon equivalents, and with the A7R V I can shoot in APS-C mode and get close to what I had with the OM 150-400.
Isn't the G 400-800mm a better choice in terms of magnification ratio and focal length reach vs. the G 200-600mm? Yes, the later is less expensive and it is lighter but the reach using the G 400-800mm lens in APS-C format of a high MP camera is impressive though...

I don't always have enough room to back up that far... plus I already own a 100-400GM and a 200-600G, so there's not much motivation to buy a bigger, heavier, and more expensive lens to do the same thing - even if they were actually available for sale.

The 100-400 gm was a amazing lens
one of my favorite lenses that I've owned
but you get spoiled with the range of 4/3
hope you get 150-400 back soon
are they going to fix it or?
In a case like this you should just get a new one straight away I think
here in Sweden manufacturers usually have 3 chances to fix it before you get a brand new one again
but you were probably just unlucky that it broke... I think they are pretty reliable otherwise
but nowadays probably 150-400 is my favorite lens
so useful for most things and the built-in Tc is so nice to have

400-800 seems to be an interesting lens
but 1200mm on Aps-c with f8 and the closest focus distance of 3.5 meters
if you compare with 4/3 150-400 with built-in Tc which gives 500mm
then 1000mm on fx and f5.6 and the closest focus distance of 1.3 meters I think is more interesting .. here the brightness is a fact even if the depth of field will not be the same on 4/3
The biggest disadvantage of the 4/3 system is still the low MP and that it is more crop sensitive
and maybe a little bit also the ISO performance but with today's software it is not such a big problem I have taken quite ok pictures with 25600 in ISO with the system

I am dying to see one of these beauties. Didn't see one in Florida last month but I didn't really have time to go out my way to find them.
Douglas, these were in at the water feature I have in the yard. They are pretty widespread in Texas right now.
