If it does not work on the Sony then this may be another example of Sony handicapping 3rd party lenses, and does open the question of whether other aspects of focusing are being limited.
I was surprised by this as well. I was initially concerned the lens is not parfocal, as some reviews mentioned that you have to reacquire autofocus after changing the focal length. However, that hasn’t been the case with the Nikon Z9—I’ve been able to maintain focus while zooming in and out without any issues. I haven’t tested this on a Sony body yet, but I plan to do so later this week.

Funny you mentioned this! When I mounted the lens onto the Sony A1 II, I couldn’t get it to focus at all. We double-checked all the settings, thinking we’d missed something—only to realize I had forgotten to remove the Sony 1.4X teleconverter when switching from Nikon to Sony.
That said, I was really surprised by how sharp the lens performs with the 1.4X attached. However, there is some noticeable vignetting, even when stopping down the aperture.
On the Nikon, it doesn’t report the correct focal length or f-stop when using the teleconverter. It should read 840mm at f/5.6, but it still shows 600mm at f/4. Just something to keep in mind!

That was my understanding as well. But Alex seems to be contradicting everyone else’s experience
I understand it working adapted to a Nikon. As the artificial limitations Sony implements wouldn’t affect a Nikon body. But I thought that continuous AF while zooming wasn’t possible on a Sony body

My first attempt at comparing the 300-600mm with a Sony 400mm, I find the 300-600mm to be a bit sharper at its midrange. I do not think it is as sharp at 600mm. Here are 2 shots, one Sony 400mm on an A7R5 and the other 300-600 on a different A7R5. I tried to set the zoom at 400mm but it ended up being 453mm. Both shots are dramatically cropped.
