Agreed. But will your plastic shelled p&s be seen in the Hamptons with Kendall Jenner or Chris Hemsworth?
Seriously though, I've thought about taking the outer shell off on of these Samsung Slim Zooms and doing an investment cast in brass. Or I could model it and have it SLA'd in aluminum like I do my replacement Automat's focus tab.
Another update, another delay. Turns out their shutter wasn't robust enough in testing.
We’re halfway through Q1. Time for an update.
Over the past months we’ve made strong progress and solved several key challenges, like the autofocus. We have also shared a lot of imagery and results of different film stocks.
During extended stress testing, we found the shutter was fast but didn’t yet meet our long-term durability standards. So we had to improve mechanics, meaning testing several shutter blade thicknesses and shutter motor sizes.
The good news: we found the right solution. The trade-off: it added some time.
Most of the engineering team is currently enjoying a well-deserved rest for Chinese New Year.
Once they’re back, we move straight into pre-production and will share updated timing.

And one more thing. Next month marks a new chapter for Analogue. We’re expanding the Analogue movement into a new experience. If you’re in Amsterdam, come by. The aF-1 will be part of it.

Probably best that they make sure it doesn’t have issues like recent film camera releases, particularly given the eye watering price.
I am not surprised that it cost this much to develop and market a new film camera from scratch in 2026, but it’s a tough sell when it needs to compete with a vast inventory of perfectly usable used cameras for beer money.

Out of the three new releases - P17, Rollei 35, Lomo MC-A - they all suck one way or another.
The P17 for being half frame and zone focus - answering questions no-one asked.
The Rollei 35 for being a film shredder misery.
The Lomo for being a Lomo i.e. just not good.
