A few more fencing photos. I know this is not the typical genre this lens will take, and probably boring for all of you, but it really excels at this when combined with the A9iii.

now that all lenses are excellent enough, image quality is essentially an artistic judgment - a perceptual quality, not a metric. Even if there are those who wish to convince you otherwise. Only the best lenses go on to become classics. Nearly all of them are 'imperfect'.

I may be different, I like the pictures of the GMII more so far. But it seems that I like sharpness I’m well aware of the fact hat in Portraits this is not priority no 1. However, from what I saw, it’s impressive. Maybe it fits my style of shooting. And of course, I like the smaller dimensions of the MK2 version.
BTW. I’m still interested in a comparison between the GM85 MKII and the Batis 85 1.8 So if someone happens to have both lenses, some comparison shots would be highly welcome

I have just ordered a Sony 85 GM II.
Let’s find out if I really like it.
I think this is a very good decision and one that I would like make very soon as well.
I’m of a similar mind with you regarding what is attractive about the 85 GM II: high contrast/high accuity. While these optical assets may be unpleasant to many portrait photographers who prefer the softer rendering of the original 85 GM, the edgier, sharper, microcontrasty rendering of the new version is precisely what I enjoy most in a lens rendering.
I’ll be selling my Batis 85mm and 135mm lenses and I’m confident I’ll enjoy the 85mm GM II in most every way except size/weight and 67mm filter. The 85mm GM II might be a bit large for my a7C II, but I think the weight won’t be too bad.

Congrats on the purchase. Hope you love it as much as I love mine.
This thing rectified the issues I had with the first version, with the biggest one being AF performance. This new one has been rock solid doing all of the various things I need it to on both my A7RV and A9.
Mixture of some new and cross-posted ones from the general FE image thread.

My relationship with Sony's 85mm GMs is that for the original I loved it on my A7III but that changed when I got my A7RIV. With the MK II I was a little disappointed at first with its bokeh but the more I shoot with it the more I appreciate and love how punchy yet flattering its images of people can be. Plus my Tiffen Black Pro Mist 1/2 filter gives the MKII a look similar to the original but with more contrast which is a very nice option to have

Any comparisons to the Batis 85?
I’m not really great about technically reviewing lenses - not like some here do - but I’m interested enough that I’ll try to post some examples in the next week while I still have the Batis.

My first impressions of the 85GM II is that I think my 50GM 1.4 may be just a touch sharper, but the 85 is very impressive and I’m happy to have this lens. I do hope to compare it with my Batis 85mm sometime in the next week. For now some initial images with the 85GM II…
