Someone really clueless must have bought his R5 for $2800 considering that’s what you can buy them for new. I think the most you might get is 2k. I plan on selling mine for $1800 or less.

Yes, I was planning to sell my R5 mark I , with the battery grip and L-bracket for ~ $2100 and maybe even its batteries since you really need P versions if you want to take advantage of pre-capture.

that's what I was thinking

I sold my 3x R5 back in mid 2023 for around $2200 each. To get $2800 a year and a half later is incredible

Canon sold you an R5II FOR $3440?

Yes indeed, and also the battery grip and 2 extra batteries for 20% off. Part of the upgrade program. I used my old relic paper weight 30D as my upgrade target

I think this is news to a lot of people here. I don't think many realize the R5II is part of the loyalty program or whatever program you are referring to. Can you post how you got this deal for anyone else looking?

Thanks for the update. I’ve seen some very nice pricing on the R5 Mark II. If I get one I will probably sell my R5 but I’m sure I would never get $2800 for it even though it’s very lightly used. If I only shot Canon I would definitely hold on to it because I hate not having a backup body. For Sony my two A1’s are in great shape so there is really no rush to trade up.

It did include a lot of accessories, like the grip and 8 OEM batteries and, other stuff. I priced it high, expecting to drop the price, but to my surprise no haggle and cash money. Sometimes you get lucky. Lord knows a I’ve lost a bundle doing trade ins with the KEHs, Adorama and B&H

I called canon direct and asked about it and they said it was part of the Upgrade (not the Loyalty) program. You have to have a defective camera that can’t be repaired or a really old one, like my 30D that I’ve kept for nostalgia as it’s not worth anything to sell….come to think of it with the 20% discount I essentially got $800 for it 😃

So did they just ask for the serial number of the old camera like the old loyalty program? You obviously didn't have to send in your old 30D correct? I already have my R5II's but I'm sure a lot of people were not aware of this and you can save some FM'ers a lot of money. I find it hard to believe they included the R5II for an upgrade price of $3440 but if that's the case that's a great deal.

Yes, oddly enough I still had my 30D registered in the database and they were able to confirm it that way. And no I didn’t need to send it in. I just updated my previous post with the purchase invoice, I digitally removed/obscured my personal info

That's great, they usually just include the lower end bodies in that program like R8/R7 etc. That's going to be a great deal for a lot of people who haven't upgraded yet.

I actually feel guilty not having posted about this sooner as I just assumed this was public knowledge. Hopefully they’re still offering the discount…I know from prior experience that the discounts can change or cancelled at any time. So folks should inquire ASAP!!!!

Exactly, I have not seen the top end bodies included in this but maybe they aren't selling well. Who knows, but it's a great way to get a discount on one - approx $3715 with tax where I live.

Dangit. I don't need to see this stuff. The value proposition of the A1 II is abysmal vs the R5 II, and the memory card prices and Sony's choice of CFE Type A has always pissed me off. lol

Nice little clip from the A1 II. The eye AF looks impressive on the leopard walking through the bush:

The A1ii improvements are insignificant and probably 90% of them could be added by a FW.
The fully articulated screen --- Adds nothing to the camera/photographer performance.
Better screen resolution ------- Don't care about it... I'm not using it to do picture editing
Pre capture --------------------- Great to have but again not a major improvement
Better menu -------------------- Nobody is using it every minute, kind of nice improvement, can live without it...
Better ergonomics ------------- Well, now camera body is 2mm bigger...
New processor ----------------- A1ii will add %2 of keepers
3 stops of image stabilization - good to have for sure
8K video ------------------------

Looking pretty good:

The AF in Video here is so bad it ruins an amazing sequence

?si=A-kGfzi6vGj536Oc&t=65 (time at 1:05), not only it continues to lose focus, but the focus adjustment is super distracting....

I know is not apple to apple but here a sequence that I took with the R5 mk1

Yeah because the photographer missed that shot since it was lightning fast when they suddenly appeared from the bush and it was the take down shot so he decided to include it in his video. You can see them running away into the bush and then they surprisingly came back out and he wasn’t ready, so that’s not the cameras fault.

And he was at a much longer focal length than yours as well. Not really a comparison between the two. You know how fast this can happen so I’m surprised you are even making the claim of the camera having bad AF for that shot.

Mine was 500mm, handheld and they also go on very bushy parts, again not apple to apple but not impressed at all

A1 original and A1 II they are both amazing camera for photo, for video Nikon Z8, Z9 and R5 II are a better choice.

RAW, 8k 60, oversampled 4k, no strange crops in HFR, waveform, etc...

I'm very surprised that Sony did not invest more in the video side of the A1 II for that price, probably protecting their FX series.

That's my problem with Sony and why I am still in 2 systems and am considering getting rid of my A7RV. All these systems have compromises though. Sony has great lenses and great technology, but they want you to always buy their latest cameras for updates and they want you to have to own two cameras for the best stills and video capabilities.

I found the IBIS to be the opposite with the A1 having much better IBIS compared to the R5II. In fact Canon treats IBIS very differently than Sony with the A1 being able to lock IBIS after you settle down your movement. No wobble corners or jello effect.

How much did you compare Slog3 dynamic range to Canon's Clog2? I love all the setting inside Slog3 that Sony gives you like manually adjusting Knee which adjust your highlight curve. I still can't get used to Sony color.
