p.1 #1 · The Fawns

I have never seen fawns before. To able to watch them be playful, curious and cautious over these past few months has been such a blessing.

I have learned from the neighbors, that you have to be very cautious with the doe during birthing season. After they are first born, the doe will leave them in the grasses and go off and forage for food. However, if you happen to be walking your dog and get in the vicinity of the fawn, mom ( who you probably do not see off in the distance ) will charge and stomp the dog and you if you are not careful . This has happened a couple of times this season in this area to some people walking dogs. Moms are very protective of their babies . As they grow older, some of the other members of the herd will be out with them. So neat to see them with the "big" boys as I call them. ( the 6 to 10 point bucks). These bucks do not tolerate anything, but let a little fawn come around and they can walk right up to them .

So, here are a few shots of some of the fawns .

As always your suggestions and comments are most appreciated.

I hope you enjoy and thank you for looking,

Birdie

Birdie - So cute ! Fawns are adorable. This is a great set. Congrats, and I know from experience how difficult they can be to shoot. Made my day seeing these.

These are really nice Roberta, what a wonderful experience. I find being able to watch the same wildlife over a period of time (like Greg with all his moose, bears, and goats, or Ted and his fox) is just such a special treat to cherish.I like them all but number 2 at eye level is real nice. Is that with your new Sony 300 those things are supposed to really work well with teleconvertors.

#7 is the winner #8 is some darn creative framing!
The right subject for the processing you did, really put some nice feeling into them with the softness.

You were engaged and I can feel it, lovely 'first' Birdie, happy for you

Bambi never looked so good Birdie! #1 really gives perspective how small they are, but 2 and 7 take the prize for me with 1 a close third with maybe a slightly tighter crop.
Wonderful set!

Thanks Greg ! I though birds were hard , but these little ones don't stop and there are so many obstructions in the way .

Thanks so much Dave. Yes, it is nice to see the same herd . I feel like they are kind of getting use to seeing us as well.

No, the second shot was with the 70-200 f/2.8 with 2XTC. 6,7, and 9 are with the 300mm f/2.8 with 2XTC . All the others were with the 70-200 , with and without TC's and taken before I received the 300mm.

Thanks. Eric . Much appreciated. The first is already a huge crop. Tried cropping closer, but loosing too much more detail.

Sweet shots. Did you use an orton style processing on the background for some? Makes for a painterly feel.
