p.3 #2 · Leica M10 BP-SCL5 battery impossible to find in the US!
I’m in the market for M10 and has been hearing about this battery shortage.
Thankfully decent amount of m10 on sale has two batteries. Considering the lifetime of batteries, is it always worth getting additional one whenever available?
How long do the usually manufacture these batteries before stopping production?

This is just speculation, but the thought crossed my mind: I wonder what is causing the shortage, especially since it has been going on for a long time, mostly in the United States. Could it be that Leica wants M10 shooters to upgrade their cameras?

M240/M262 owners as well. However, we 240/262 users have a bit longer battery life to rely on. Regardless, I’d be curious to know where and when my recently acquired new one originated, particularly when.

They’re out of luck as far as I go.

Hi, this is not true. I had to buy a used battery after being unable to source a new one for over a year in South Korea. The local Leica store here said they had no timetable for when the next shipment would arrive, if at all. In Taiwan, the Leica store said the batteries come every few months and they sell out really quick because they are in short supply.

Apparently the shortage is only in the USA for some reason.

Hey, I understand your point. It used to be mainly a US issue, but now it seems to be more widespread, including Europe. But don’t take my word for it. I’m just sharing what I’ve seen reported by shooters online from outside the USA. Thanks for your input!

Hopefully, 3rd party battery makers will have a reliable Amazon market for $100 batteries instead of $200. Maybe they can put a red dot on them for that kind of money.

While there are third-party replacements available for many discontinued Leica M cameras, I’ve never seen a battery replacement for the Leica M10 series (BP-SCL-5). I'm not sure why that is.

That must be why they are working so feverishly on rolling out updates to fix M11s from freezing.
Ok ok, that's just my wild conspiracy theory. The real reason is the battery engineers have been tapped to show the M6 pressure plate engineers how to prevent film scratching.

Has any company made a USB charge version of these yet? I see them for other manufacturers but haven't seen them yet for Leica batteries. It would remove the need to carry the bulky chargers around (the third party chargers never worked long term for me).

Think about the insanity here. Leica does not care that a key part that owners need to use their cameras is not available. But they instead focus on releasing the next version of their cameras.
This reflects their attitude to customer service - all they care about is the initial sale.

Yeah that’s insane. I might get out anyway but it’s a ridiculous business model.
