But are people buying the A93 for its dynamic range or high iso, or are they buying the A93 for its global shutter, it’s leading AF and it’s 120fps?

I highly doubt people give a rats ass about the low iso dynamic range in the A93.

Did I mention the R3 and R5 beat the a9III by almost 2 FULL STOPS on Bill Claff's tests? Why are you pushing such an inferior camera?

I'm glad you finally admitted that Canon DSLR'S excellent, since less DR doesn't matter anymore , since Sony came out with a $6k low DR camera.

Can't say I've ever looked at a photo (on the internet) and thought thank God I use brand 'x' because I would have 1.66 stops more DR if I had. fs.

So you're saying the 5DsR and Rebel SL2 ( which is actually capable of a little higher DR than A9III) are great cameras?

I definitely agree

I just realized that I must be lost, because I don’t have an A1, A9III, Z8, Z9, R3 and I won’t get the R5II or R1. I don’t even have a Rebel.

Whew!! Rebel, yes, I´m not lost, I have a boxfull for those. Johnvanr, I can send you a 1000D. It´s not good to be _that_ lost.

And if you decide to get one yourself, from experience: the 1100D has actually really good IQ for what it is! Takes good glass though. No surprise, but far too seldom realized when Rebels are judged. I use the good once from the Contaxline or ZE´s on all mine.

I guess my major takeaway from all the brand war blather is that lack of dynamic range is only a problem when it affects a Canon sensor? (Irony intended.)

And since the arguments defending the A9III make sense, it just shows that not being able to lift shadows by 6 stops in post is meaningless for most photography, but makes a great attack point for photography forums.

Interesting read:

https://www.gamesradar.com/psychology-fanboys-explained-professional/

"Fanboys. Theyre one of gamings most prevalent phenomena, and one of its most seemingly inexplicable. Vocal, dogmatic, and often apparently illogical, the veracity of their loyalty to brands and franchises is matched only by the blinkered, unswerving nature of their viewpoints. Its unsurprising that theyre often written off as lunatic cranks, diverged from reality. But are they really crazy, or is their behaviour more comprehensible than many think?"

My takeaway is that if you intend to get something different/better than what Canon provides, it is impossible to discuss it, and a better strategy to just get it in silence.

Or just post it in the Nikon forum, so the trolls don't have to visit this one; although rather ironically, these are the same people who get bent out of shape whenever someone mentions another brand in the Nikon forum...

The height of the DR war was back in approx 2011-2016 during the 5DIII era when Canon was way behind and people weren't
happy about the shadows. I was never one of them and I stayed out of those DR discussions. But since then things have changed, and Canon has caught up (even if it means NR in RAW files) and there are now tons of great bodies out there with plentiful DR from all brands to choose from.

So to talk about DR in the A9III is just ridiculous and does nothing but clutter up these threads with complete nonsense. The A9III is a specialty body in its own league and currently has no competitor to compare it with. When Canon or Nikon offers their global shutter with similar specs then a DR comparison would be relevant. But until then, the A9III is the only body on the market in that category. People looking specifically for DR are not be the target market of the A9III. Sony offers plenty of other bodies for those looking for better DR. People who are buying the A9III are well aware of the DR shortcomings as they are simply after the fastest camera on the market. Does Canon or Nikon offer a faster global shutter body with better DR? No, so until then hopefully some people can understand this and stop with all thread crapping around here.

It's like trying to argue a 911 GT3 cup car doesn't have plush leather, massage chair seating, and a smooth ride. No, you buy a Maybach or RR for luxury and comfort, not a race car. Different tools for different purposes.

It's a bummer that someone like the OP can't have an open discussion about other brands in the gear forum without the lame fanboy nonsense from some of these guys who've never owned or will own any of this high end gear.

I shoot Canon but I enjoy learning about gear from other brands and I have no issues with it being discussed in the Canon forum. With that said if I want the fastest camera in the world, then I'm adding an A9III to my arsenal and like someone else mentioned, I don't give a rats ass about it's DR because that's not what I'm after in that body.

Thanks for the offer, but I think I’ll try therapy instead…

Just stick with Leica M and you'll be fine! As much as I like my mirrorless gear, there is something unique about the Leica experience, the Leica look, and all those supremely subjective qualities that make it such an enjoyable photographic experience. It's also the best system for riling up the anti-fanboys.

Zeiss micro-contrast 3D-pop is a close second.

I'd say, go for the "Medium Format look"

Yes, and to clarify, I was calling BS on both sides of that discussion (or was trying to).

So DR doesn't matter anymore, since Sony came out $6k body that doesn't have it?

You have got to be kidding me.

I would say a long post accusing others of cluttering up the board over DR, a topic discussed a TON on here in the past, well, I'm not the one cluttering up the board. Yes the R3 competes. The R1 is probably going to leave the Sony in the dust on DR as well, like the R5 does

Planning to do just that, plus a large helping of MFT and the “slow” Canons of yesteryear, like the R5 and R6II. Poor me
