Me, not yet. Definitely don't have it dialed in. My son agrees - he gets better (more predictable) results with the R3. It feels like the R1 is trying to be too smart for its own good. Still tweaking the settings, which isn't easy for me outside of owl season

Hmmm I am back and forth still on this upgrade. Only issue with holding onto the R3 is how fast it's losing its value. Blah

I am still happy with mine. I do not regret selling the R3's at all. I still feel like it improves over the R3. I have it pretty well dialed in now. That said the R3 is a great value used.

In terms of image quality is the R1 any better than the R3 or it’s about the same? Because the autofocus might be a little better on the R1 but it’s worth the buy??

I don't have both. But I decided to buy a used R3 at half or less the price of an R1. Generally, IQ is not significantly different over one sensor generation, at least not recently. The bigger value in R1 is the cross type AF, incremental AF speed and accuracy, 40 vs 30 fps, precapture. IQ will be excellent, but R3 is already excellent.
Only you can decide if the performance features outside of that are worth $3-4k for what you are doing.

Can anyone that has both R1 and R3 reply ?

I still own both and I can't tell a difference in image quality (or to be honest, much of anything at all.)

Not even the pre-capture and the 40 fps?
Well, yes, that's obvious though. You may as well list the better hot shoe cover. I'm not saying that there aren't any improvements. Precapture opens new possibilities or makes shots easier (you have to cull less). But is 40fps going to make my 30fps shots much better? If you're shooting kingfishers, maybe. For my son's HS sports or my owls, not so much. Besides, the pathetic buffer makes 40fps actually not that appealing (I can see the difference between raw and c-raw).
So, no. I'm not saying that there's no improvement, I'm saying that it's a letdown, both from a usability perspective (precapture not on a button, WB button not being re-mappable, bunch of other random things), from a resolution perspective, and so on. It's an R3m2, it's what the A1m2 is to the A1, and I'm not alone with that feeling. The R5m2 is a bigger improvement over the R5 than the R1 is over the R3. Yes, I currently own all of these cameras.
