This lens had enthusiastic reviews back in 2024. Just wondering how well it has weathered over time. Anyone still using it and loving it, or has it been supplanted by newer alternatives?

It is still my prefered/go to zoom for the FLs it covers. I just used it Saturday.

And I find it very competent against my CV APO Lanthars.

BTW, I don't see any true alternatives in this range, near this aperture, except for the Sony 28-70/2 GM. And similar to the 12-24 GM, Sigma released the 14-24/2.8 before the Sony release. And in that case as well, I didn't sell the Sigma and buy the Sony.

FWIW, I had the Sigma 14-24, 28-45, and Sony 50-150 in my bag on Saturday.

The Sigma 28-45 has a more special rendering that reminded me of the Otus 28 at 28mm. I'd get the 28-70GM solely to use with A9iii for maxFPS AF and to compensate for the lower resolution.

I used this with Leica SL2 and am fully satisfied.
It is immaculate lens except weight that is only disadvantage.

I'm still in love with it and I hope to pair it with the Sony 50-150mm f/2 GM eventually.

Still have this lens, colors and contrast are great (nicer than the 35mm DG II f1.2 in my opinion).
I don't know which lens to keep, this one or the 35mm APO SL.

Does the 35mm Apo SL perform noticeable better than the 28-45 at 35mm 2.0? Serious question.

I still wonder if the Apo SL is better than the Sony 35 GM and Sigma 35 1.4 II both at 2.0 🤔

That’s some praise. I always thought the 35 was the very best of the modern SL primes. Curious what you will decide.

I haven't (yet) read all 19 pages on this thread but something Dustin Abbott said made me run over there as fast as I could -

"I’ve had a few of those moments in my 10+ years of covering Sigma lenses where I pleasantly surprised by my expectations being exceeded. It’s like suddenly discovering a Zeiss lens where I expected a standard Sigma offering. If Zeiss made an Otus zoom, it feels like it would be a lot like this…and that’s a very high compliment."

So, in the collective opinion is this true?? I may have to take a closer look at this lens. BTW, I watched a Sigma - Colin Prior video where he used this lens and thus piqued my interest in it.

Well, in my experience, it's as APO as my APO Lanthars. It gives my CV 28 & 35 APOs a run for the money. The CV 50 is just ridiculously consistent across the frame. Sure there are other lenses that are sharper in the center, but on the edges and corners it's excellent. The Sigma renders beautifully at 45mm and is still very sharp and capable, but the CV 50 is tough to beat.

My use of the Lanthars dropped pretty dramatically after buying the Sigma. For what I shoot, I don't see the Sigma as much of a step down from the Lanthars. Not going to sell the Lanthars, but dang I never thought a zoom would perform so well.

But my opinion is a collective of one.

See if others chime in....

The Sigma is fine lens and it was my favorite zoom until I tried the Sony 28-70 f/2. I liked the Sony images more, had more range, and it felt better balanced on my A7RV. Both were equally sharp. Sold the Sigma soon after.
