Be interesting to see the new Sony 24-50 against this 28-45. Not so much speed but just the look of them.

Unfortunately I can’t do that comparison. I have lots of lenses, but not that particular one.

That looks like Hopewell Furnace in your tests!

To the above, I'll have a copy of the 24-50 next week and if you're that local, you're welcome to try it.

You called it. We like going to Vecchia's and Lock 29 when we're down your way.

If you are ever interested in meeting up to do a comparison, let me know. Pretty much limited to weekends and I tend to go early (try to get there by 9 AM). We could meet up at Hopewell Furnace. Look through my inventory of lenses that you might want to try.

I suspect the Sigma would be sharper in general but maybe have busier bokeh (at common apertures).

Shame it seems to be in a no man's land for most people. Too big, too heavy, not enough range. It's not f/1.4 like the fast primes.

On the flip side, it will outperform the FE 28/2, FE 35/1.8, FE, 50/1.8 from a sharpness perspective. But alas it isn't f/1.4 prime, which it is more like in performance than the f/1.8 primes.

All wide open, taken on a hot and humid summer day in Pennsylvania.

It gives the Loxia 25 a run for its money. I always find that the depth of field just seems to always fall perfectly front to back for landscape shots I do.

Loxia 25 @ f/5.6

Im noticing the 28-45 looks to have more contrast build followed by the Loxia 25mm which I always believed was maybe the best 24/25 lens out there than interesting the 14-24 seems flatter contrast. In all honesty they all look good . I know with the drab sky it's a tough read but still very good for all of them. I am happy to see the copies posted have no centering issues.

Yea what I was suspecting was the Loxia 25mm maybe outperforming it, which I think maybe the best 24/25 around but my guess if your in the F4/F5.6 area it may not matter much at all. Zooms are great and for years I would not come close to buying one but over the last few years they have gotten so good. Computer can do miracles when it comes to sharpness and such where they lack coming from an old shooter is the character is harder to come by in the modern lenses. Its really a trade off as character mostly comes from underperforming lenses which today there is none or very little

Check again....I misposted a Sigma 28/1.4 shot.....it's been fixed. Both have the default LR sharpening applied. The Loxia 25 is an incredible lens, and while you might be able to fiddle with an image to try to attain the Loxia's sharpness, I always prefer having it right up front.

Thanks Tim the front ground brick wall, I think the Loxia maybe a touch sharper. What do you think?

Shit I mixed them up the zoom may have the edge

The Loxia has the edge in the extreme foreground. I mean they are in the ballpark, just depends where you look in the frame. I've always found the Loxia 25 to favor giving you a little bit of extra foreground depth of field. Think it has some field curvature, not quite as much as the Loxia 21 though.

Posted a hot with the 14-24 for comparison as well.

I always liked that Sigma 14-24 actually had one for awhile. For members it maybe one of the best super wide zooms out there to get a 14mm zoom looking that good at 14mm is rare

Other than the bulbous front element/no screw in filters, size & weight (although coming from the ZE 15 I don't find it unreasonable), I have a tough time faulting it. It stands up to pretty much all my primes in that range. It's not glamorous, but even at the long end where it is supposed to be the weakest, it delivers.

Today I was walking around the woods in a local park and was so impressed by the out of focus rendering. I thought to myself, "Oh wow, the mechanical vignetting is surprisingly minimal!" 15 minutes later I realize that I had accidentally put the camera in APS-C mode.

Whoops!

Ha! I’ve done that once. I wasn’t really focused, just casual shooting. Didn’t notice until I downloaded. I had gotten a Leica 35-70 R and I was more focused on the use of it than actually focusing on the shooting.

Thanks, something I wanted to do anyway to get a feel for the lens....so I figured I might as well share.

If anything it's also letting people see how some other lenses perform as well.

Here are my APS-C errors!

45mm f/1.8 in APS-C crop. Not bad for a 70mm f/2.8 equivalent.

Here you can get a sense of backlit contrast and lens flare at 28mm (but, again, APS-C crop).

And one full frame 28mm!
