Burying the lede though, no? That's a closed shutter/shield with the lens off.

I compared that pic to my Z9 and I'm leaning towards that being the shutter blades, not a dedicated shutter guard due to some differences I'm seeing.

I don't think there is room for both a dedicated shield AND a mechanical shutter assembly in the same camera.

24mp stacked sensor made it's debut in A9 6+ years ago. It is time the tech shows up in lower tier cameras.

Frankly I wouldn't be surprised to see a stacked sensor that wasn't a Sony sensor in the Z6III.

A question for the Nikon Z aficionados.

Are the Zf manual focusing aids likely to be introduced to other existing Z series bodies via firmware updates or to future Z bodies?

I've no interest in the Zf retro form or 25 MP sensor but I'd value the Zf manual focusing aids in a compact higher resolution body such as a Z7 lll or similar.

Nikon has never given an indication as to this. I’m surprised it hasn’t made it to the Z8/Z9.

The biggest question is whether the Z6 III will finally bring raw pre-capture. The Z8/Z9's pre-capture is implemented using their video pipelines instead of stills, which is why they're jpg only and also why they suffer from rolling shutter artifacts. Perhaps the feature was an afterthought that Nikon didn't plan for and so why they cobbled together the video-based implementation. The Z's also have very shallow RAM buffers, which makes raw pre-capture a bit tricky and limited to implement. The fact the Z6 III has a new Expeed hints its precapture may be implemented using the stills pipeline, which if true could include raw support.

Raw pre-capture feels like a tall order without a lot more compute power. And I am not sure how it would avoid rolling shutter effects without a global shutter sensor. My ask is far more modest - raw HDR. Even low end phones do it these days. Yes, I hear the purists who say "do it in post so you get exactly what you want". For me at least, the phone auto HDR gets close enough 90% of the time, and saves me hours in front of a computer - which is the part of photography I least enjoy. Yes, Auto HDR in phones often gets the colors wrong, which is why I am emphasizing raw HDR.

I guess we will have some answers in less than 48 hrs.

Raw pre-capture doesn't require additional compute power because the images aren't processed until the photographer fully presses the shutter to keep the images. Until then the raw frames just continually read from the sensor and deposited into memory without any processing.

Rolling shutter for raw pre-capture is no different than the rolling shutter for standard still-imaging exposures. The only reason it's different on the Z8/Z9's pre-capture is because their pre-capture is implemented using the video mode/pipeline of the sensor, which uses a slower sensor readout vs stills.

Gotta give credit to the source man...

In any case no video spec will ever make me buy a camera. In the 20 or so years that Nikons have had video since the D90 I think I have shot a grand total of 1 video ... And it was of the bioluminescence in San Diego during covid, and only because nothing but high ISO, f/1.8 and a tripod would have been a le to capture what my eyes were seeing.

I heard partial stacked sensor, whatever that is. Pre capture is still jpg only as far as I know. EVF improvement is supposed to be major though. But let see what actually show up tomorrow.
