Took the GFX100S out for a bit of light astrophotography earlier this week before the moon gets too big. I was testing my new Sigma 14mm F1.8A and Nikon 20mm F1.8G lenses that night, but for now here is an untracked shot of the Galactic Center taken with the GF20-35 @ F4.
I probably should have capped the exposure at 20s but with F4 light is already at such a premium...

Cheers Dan. It's a great lens even for a task as punishing as astrophotography. I'm no optics expert but I'd say the 20-35 shows mild spherical aberration, mild chromatic aberration, and about 1.33 stops of vignetting at F4, but not really any astigmatism or comatic aberration (I mean for this sentence to sound positive!). It'd probably be nice on a tracker... I effectively shot that photo at about 16,000 ISO and the noise is noticeable.

I travelled to Toronto and spent some time (between two medical appointments) at the Royal Ontario Museum. I like taking pictures in museums - there is always something that is fun to look at.

Cannot agree more. Always interesting to shoot images there. I also like to photograph in museums, and mostly the buildings itself are also very nice/interesting.
Photographing art (as in modern paintings and other contemporary art), can be a problem when showing these on the internet ofcourse. Still, most buildings are interesting enough.

I find photographing paintings is more of a technical challenge. In the worst-case scenario, there might be glass in front of some paintings (for example, the first in the series I posted - the Japanese art - was behind glass). Reflections in the glass can be a major problem.
Next, is the low and poor light. This means more noise to begin with. I try shooting at the slowest possible shutter speed. When I shoot through the viewfinder, I can manage a 1/2s shutter speed with the GFX100S II. However, often it is necessary to shoot with the camera at a different level, to center the picture in the frame. Then the camera is less stable, and the shutter speed needs to be increased.
The worst part with poor light is the WB, that is, reasonably good color reproduction. While there are established methods of measuring WB, these can be impossible to use when photographing a painting (I wish I could use duct tape to attach a ColorChecker to the frame!).
Lastly, taking a good position for photographing a painting can be challenging in the somewhat crowded environments.
Perhaps because of all of the technical challenges, photographing art is an interesting exercise. This is also an opportunity to have a longer and more careful look at the paintings that teach photographers important lessons in composition and lighting.

Was I made aware of this visually when viewing the initial image? Not to me..I think it is a fine composition. The "totality" of the depiction removes any "conflicts:, IF any. I dont see any.

You were in Rockland! If time permitted, you should have taken the ferry to Vinalhaven Is. ! A 45 minute ride. Ferry is thee only way to get there!
My brother has a house there and spends June to December there.
There is a VERY rare Maine lh there, Browns Head lh. It is part of a residence and provides guidace between Northhaven and Vinalhaven...The golf course is on Northhaven so to get there from Vinalhaven you ring a huge bell and a "boater" comes to take you across the sound!

Thanks Dan, been going to Maine my whole life, but as yet haven't made it out to Vinalhaven. Some day.... We did stay out on Monhegan overnight. Once we had kids, the overnight stay on Monhegan became a rare event. One of my favorite places to go.
Does look like a neat lighthouse. I also like the lighthouse on Burnt Island, we used to kayak out to it when we were younger. It's towards the mouth of Boothbay Harbor. They run a boat out there, but only starting in July, and we tend to go to Maine in June.

Well if you get to Vinalhaven my brother lives on Water Street(in front of the urgent care building), 2 blocks from the water,,,FYI...they only started using house address 10-15 years ago.
My niece is the Town historian..Library.....

I would love to retire up there as well (as my parents also said for years....and are retired....and are still in PA). We'll see, I suspect I will just try to vacation up there more often when I retire.
