Here is a shot from the M-D during my recent trip to Mammoth Lakes. I captured many images with both the M-D and M10-R but have not had much time to go through them yet.

Thank you. I was shooting with my Leica M10-R and high-performance lenses like the Voigtlander 50mm f/3.5 APO-Lanthar and Leica 90mm f/2 AA. Once I got the lighting how I wanted, I picked up my Leica M-D with the 50mm f/1.4 Summilux pre-ASPH (v3) and took a shot. I did this at nearly every location. I haven't had time to go through the 'serious' images from the modern lenses yet, but this one immediately caught my eye.

I've been testing my new Leica 90mm f/2 Summicron pre-ASPH (v3) on the M-D. At first, I noticed that my images weren't as sharp as they were when using the same lens on the M10-R, which was strange since the lens was perfectly aligned with the M10-R's rangefinder. It turned out the issue wasn't the lens. It was my M-D's rangefinder alignment. Leica actually messed it up during service, even though it was properly adjusted before!
Since the M-D lacks live view for checking sensor focus, it took me a bit of time to fine-tune the rangefinder alignment manually, but it wasn't too difficult. Now, all my images are tack sharp with this lens and camera combination. I originally thought from online reports that the 90mm f/2 pre-ASPH v3 was a bit soft wide open, but that's not the case at all.
At this point, I don't even think I need the APO version.
Here are the images, straight out of the camera with the Adobe Standard profile, no processing:
The M-D's sensor consistently produces bold and pleasant colors, which in some cases, I find even more pleasing than the M10-R's.

Lovely images Fred.
Would files out of the M262 look the same as the M-D 262? I wonder if Leica changed anything with the sensor output between the two.
I'd assume they're the same, but I've come across reports suggesting slight color differences. I haven't compared them side by side myself.
That said, I really love the images from this camera straight out of the box, without any post-processing. The auto WB is fixed (can't be changed), but it has never let me down. I actually get better out-of-camera results from the M-D than from my M10-R.

Can you change the camera settings in Leica app on your mobile? I mean, is the white balance for example truly fixed to always Auto, or can you override it with the mobile app?
Or can you manually set the used lens, if using the camera with uncoded lenses?

The camera is older than the app 😄 so no you can’t do anything from the app.

No settings can be adjusted, which some find refreshing and others find frustrating.

Is that image how it looks - glowy/softish focus - totally from the lens or also from some pp?
I assume at 1.4? Looks very old Hollywood glam!
Thanks for asking! I keep post-processing pretty light...just basic sharpening and some black-and-white point adjustments. I’m using Adobe Standard as the color profile. The only exception is the black and white images, which needed conversion and a bit of level tweaking in Lightroom.
I really love the look this lens gives, especially in backlit scenes with that beautiful veiling effect. Looks great on film too.
