Geoff - is the S/N 337XXX indicative of early A1's?
TIA

My camera was shipped to me on March 9th 2021 and serial is S0133713XXG
I got that off my invoice, didn't check the camera so some of those letters/numbers may not be on the camera itself??

I have my C3 button set to switch between screen and EVF. I like the screen to be off 99% of the time as it helps to save battery life.
Thank you so much LiveShots. That’s good to know.
Next, when your settings are loaded in my A1, I will check / record all your button settings.
I use 3 buttons to manage image stabilization, including for adapted manual lenses, without going into any menu.
The C3 button is part of that system in my settings.
Overall I like the menu systems that come with Firmware version 2.01 a lot.
So I have to rethink how nest to set up my A1 now.
In particular that nowadays I have a larger number of Sony’s latest and greatest Native AF lenses.
BTW is there a way in the A9 Mark I menu system to save and load the settings to a memory card?
TIA for any hints on that topic.

Thank you Geoff. That’s interesting.
I find the A1 serial number in the Set up pages of the Menu system.
Yours presumably looks like this: 33713XX
Mine is 337xxxx, so a 7-digit number.

The a9 MkI can only store some of the menu settings on the card M1-M4, but formatting the card will erase them. There is no CAMSET save option on that camera. Not sure why they didn't add it.

My guess is the actual build number is the last 4 digits of the serial #. Mine being from initial launch was in the first 1300 bodies to N. America. The serial prefix is likely different outside of N.A. Maybe someone can confirm if their prefix is different than 337. Also I wonder what more recent A1 serial numbers start at?

Mine starts with 377 and I was a very early buyer in EU...

I think it has to do with regional batches as arbitrage suggested...
Mine definitely starts with 377 .
Now to find the A1 manufacture or packaging date. For some of the Sony GM lens boxes I checked, the manufacture or packaging date is clearly listed on the lens box. No clear date format for the A1 camera box that I can tell, unless there is a 2021 week number( since I purchased in 2021) included in one of the other number sequences listed on the box label

It's possible that Sony used different chip sets during the build cycle of the camera. There were chip shortages during COVID that may have directed them to use an alternative supply.

The survey results gave mr some courage. Updating now. Good thing I have a bunch of other stuff to do. Tedium interspersed with a bit of trepidation.
Completed now and bluetooth/wifi are all functioning. Whew. Now to relearn/revise and update the custom settings. Early model - 377xxx
Same for me - the discussion began to get sorted out and I took the plunge. So far all OK though a bit of a chore restoring settings. I checked Bluetooth and it works fine with the Sony remote.
My A1 was bought used so no idea whether an early one or not S/N 377XXXX

Is there anywhere to look at the menu structure with the FW update?
Thanks Bill, great question. I don’t know.
In principle one could photograph the menu structure of the LCD screen of an updated A1 and post the images here.
Would that interest you?
That”s a lot of pictures though.

This updated Help Guide for A1 v2.0 and later was included in the v2/2.01 firmware update notes and might be a good place to start. See latest list of menu items below. Click on each blue menu item for additional details:

K-H.
I wouldn't expect anyone to do that but thanks for the mention.
