I absolutely love the Nikon Z 1.8 S lenses. All of the ones I have are very impressive in sharpness, rendering, color, bokeh and control of CA. The 35mm does have slightly more visible CA in some situations, but it doesn't take away from just how good it is in every other way. I didn't expect it to become one of my favorite lenses to use, but it is.

Love the shot of your dog @ 35mm. I just picked up this lens (and the 50mm), and have really enjoyed using it so far as well. Agree it has more CA than I might like but the rendering is really impressive for this wide and only f1.8, as your poochy photo illustrates!

This thread shows the S series lenses are very good!
The people behind the lens are even better,
Now my Nikon Acquisition Syndrome just went into overdrive 😀
Looking at the 20mm and possibly the 50mm for my newly acquired Z8
Who am I kidding? I want them all!

The Z 1.8 S lenses have turned out to be pretty great, even though, it was just the Z6ii with the kit 24-70 f/4 image quality alone that had me purchasing the Z7ii. The compactness of the kit compared to my D800 or D850 bodies with, say the 24-85 combined with the superb image quality (even with the f/4 24-70) sold me on buying the second body and additional optics.

I also had not previously owned one of the Nikon FF (FX in Nikon speak) 24 MP bodies. The Z6ii was my first Z body, and the level of detail, as well as dynamic range possible turned out to be of minimal significance compared to the D800 and D800E bodies I have been shooting for years, and not really THAT much different from the D850, in the end. They'll all print to 24x30 on my large format Epson (obviously, amount of cropping and fine detail will differ SOME, but at arms length most people would not be able to tell the difference with these FINE Z S line lenses).

I now own the 20, 50 and 85 f/1.8 lenses. They are all superb.

I have to admit, that I have used the 50 f/1.8 S the least. In my testing of D850 and Sigma 50 f/1.4 Art in comparison, the results are mostly interchangeable. This is a testament to BOTH the 50 S and the Sigma 50 Art, which is an absolutely superb lens. These two lenses are neck to neck, although, of course the Sigma can give even more DOF separation at f/1.4 (with slight loss of corner acuity). At f/1.8, and beyond they are - for all practical purposes - interchangeable, and the 50 f/1.8 S is smaller and lighter than the Sigma 50 Art.
