The kids played with the pressure washer and it made some mist. I liked how the light was hitting the mist and the kids where so full of joy. It's going to be one of those picture that make me nostalgic in january when everything is frozen.

Some Week-end shenanigans with friends and family. I really enjoy carrying the Zf paired with the 50 1.8S or the 35 1.8S. Not only it's a good looking kit but it's such a breeze to used but I can also trust the autofocus to get the shots even when I just point and shoot in the direction of the subject. It goes straight for the eyes and my keeper rate is really good!

I am just switching back over to Nikon after several years, so look forward to using the 50mm f/1.8 S. I'm still debating if I want to pick up the 35 f/1.8 S or the new 35 f/1.4, but this thread has me thinking to stick to the f/1.8.

Welcome back! What camera body did you get? I have no doubt that you will love the 50mm 1.8S. It's a real gem on the Z mount.

I dont have any experience with the new 35mm 1.4 but i do own and love the 35mm 1.8S.

From what I understand the 1.4 will give you a marginally smoother bokeh but wont be as sharp or render as well as the 1.8S.
Sharpness seems to be adequate for portrait especially on lower MP cameras.

If you are like me and you like to buy used, than your only option is the 1.8S. The advantage is that you could sell it for the same price more or less if you dont end up liking it. But if you want to buy new, I would go with the 1.4 because it will be much cheaper and seems to be good enough.

Personally I wont be switching because I dont see the 1.4 as an upgrade.

Before mirrorless, I had a Nikon D750 DSLR, which was a great camera for portraits, events and family. I eventually went mirrorless with Sony, but I briefly tried the Z6 when it first came out.

We recently got our first grandson, and my daughter (who is a special needs teacher and loves photography) was using a very old Fuji camera to take baby pictures. After alot of thought, I decided to give her my Sony A7RV, 24-70 and a 50mm f/1.2 GM so she can take photos of our new grandson and possibly start a side business taking baby pics. My photography needs have changed quite a bit with a recent interest in local wildlife and landcapes where I live in rural Pennsylvania outside of Pittsburgh.

On Friday, I received a new Z8 along with the 24-120 f/4 kit, 180-600 f/5.6-6.3, 50 f/1.8 S and the 105 f/2.8 macro. I look foward to using this kit, and it feels good to help my daughter. I will sell off some of my Sony gear to offset the Nikon kit. That said, I am debating if I should pick up any more of the f/1.8 S lenses or look into some of the more recent 28/40 and 35 f/1.4 offerings. I'm not really interested in the big/heavy/expensive f/2.8 zooms or f/1.2 primes anymore.

That is very generous of you! she must be so happy.

I am sure you will enjoy your new Nikon kit. I was a professional photographer for a decade using Canon. But when I changed my career path I wanted a smaller and less expensive kit and switched to Sony. I was never really satisfied with my kit and ended up switching to Nikon. The price of the body and their amazing lenses won me over Canon's offering.

You have a very nice and versatile kit as it is. In the long run you can had a couple primes to complete it. You will be happy with either the 28/40 set up or any 1.8S lenses. But I believe those 1.8S have the edge and give you incredible quality for the price they sell. They are a little bigger but still manageable in my opinion.

Thank you so much!

No I bought it used from a member here maybe 6 weeks ago but hadn’t used it almost at all until I was asked to shoot a birthday party this past Saturday

That's really impressive! It gives a dual purpose to the 85mm 1.8S. Does it retain autofocus with the extension tube?
