Hmph. Odd. Mine didn't when I got my rebel a while ago.
Ah well. It's 20D and L lenses now so who cares!
I think none of the kits had the USM version but you could buy it in a USM version. I'm shooting a modified rebel 18-55 EFS on my 10D, it's a decent cheapy wide angle.

Canon is reducing the total mass of the camera by a whopping 25% and subtracting 10% from the weight of the 300D. Is this really a "warm welcome?" To me it would be too lightweight. . .
Absolutely welcome. There are times when size/weight matter a great deal - like when hiking, or walking around cities. I don't always feel comfortable getting a 1D2 out in a big city. Too big and expensive looking...... give me a 1D2 in a small light package and I would be a very happy guy. Even the 300D could be a little large, which is why I still carry my little S40 from time to time.
OK, so the XT is not a 1D2, but it is better than the 300D. I may consider upgrading my backup to an XT instead of a 20D - which is what I was considering.
The only thing that appealed to me on the 20D that this does not have was the joystick. However, I have never played with it, so I have no idea if it really is useful or not.
Slightly off topic - nevermind the XT, I'm more interested in the new Sigma lenses reported on the site i.e. DG versions of the 300 2.8, 120-300 2.8 and a 30 1.4 DC...
Looks like aperture will be tricker to change. On the DReb mkI the aperture button was further away from other buttons, making it easy to hit. Add me to the list of people that don't like the idea of how much smaller it is. Overall, looks like a great upgrade over the mk I, and should kill the D70. But I hold to my plan of waiting until any of the following happens before I upgrade my body :
5 Years
Happy with my glass collection
My mk1 breaks.
The only negative news to me is that 300D will stay in line at $700.It means that 350D will not (and never?) drop down to $700.The real sucessor to 300D should be 3000D which would be released in this year.
What are you talking about, the Rebel XT is the successor to the Rebel.
What's up with those NB-2L batteries? I have those in my powershot, and they suck! I hope they have improved them, because the old ones are nowhere near as good as BP511's..
