Wow, check out the MFDs on the 50 VMs!
APO f/3.5 – 0.45m(Type I) / 0.35(Type II)
CS f/2.2 – 0.5m
Both of these will be instant order for me. That 50 2.2 will be the perfect pairing with the matching aluminum 28 2.8 CS. Finally a small 50 to compete with the LLL 50 Elcan.
The new 50/3.5 APO-Lanthar Type II MFD is insane at 0.35m for a 50mm M-mount lens.
I also thought about the Elcan when seeing the CV 50/2.2 Color-Skopar specs but the Voigtlander is even more impressive. It has a closer focusing distance (0.5m compared to 0.7m), is 6mm shorter, and weighs almost half as much as the brass Elcan, which is considered one of the smallest 50mm f/2 lenses.
Compared to the current CV 50/2 APO-Lanthar, the new 50/3.5 APO-Lanthar has some notable differences. Firstly, it has fewer aperture blades (10 vs 12), and their aperture mechanism seems to be different as well. While the 50/2 APO has a perfectly circular aperture at F2, F2.8, F5.6, and F16, the new f/3.5 lens likely has the standard straight blade aperture design throughout.
Also, the new APO is lighter, weighing 245g (Type II) compared to 288g, and it's 8mm shorter, which is welcome for RF shooters. Another significant change is the filter thread size, which decreases from 49mm to only 34mm, although the latter is not an easy to find filter size unless sized up to 39mm.
