Congratulations to Scott Stoness for winning Feature Thread of the Week with 5 votes - View Previous Winners

Bugaboo Provincial Park is in BC. It is about 30km up from Radium Hot Springs and then 40k by logging roads. It is a internationally known climbing location. But I am too old for that.

My legs still hurt. After 900m over 7km, I was puffing with a 40lb packsack and my drone and camera and bivy. And then down, I can barely walk down my stairs at home. But enough of the whining.

It was a glorious evening. Perhaps about freezing. I kept my bivy open and fell asleep watching the Milky Way without light pollution. I was too tired to take pictures of the Milky Way. I will just remember it.

Then the morning was equally spectacular - but missing clouds from a photographers perspective.

Here are my best pictures of the overnight hike.

Comments and feedback are appreciated.

Glad you like 1,3. It was a spectacular walk, with beautiful larch in colour, great sleep with the Milky Way - and too many opportunities to try. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Well I am old and do lots of backpacking. Hopefully my knees hold out for another decade at least. Glad you like the pictures. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

What a wonderful trip - topping it off by laying under a blanket of stars!!

Love all the pictures but I'm not one bit envious about sleeping on the ground. Need my warm bed!!

Thanks for sharing!

Al Trujillo: I was pretty warm and the ground was not too rocky where we found our spot, so it was a good sleep but a bit too long. Eg 9pm to 7am. That's the trouble with backpacking in the fall - the nights are long. Glad you like the pictures. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Nice work, both getting to the location, bringing the gear, and taking the beautiful pictures. It' the downhill that burns my legs too! I climbed in "The Bugs" back in the early 80s and loved it. Would like to return now to photograph.

The bugs are beautiful. Downhill was the leg killer for me too. The quads were so tight for 3 days. You should return. It is a reasonable hike to this spot or Conrad Kane hut. [personally I like the 1lb bivy better ].

I took a drone video from the edge of the park - itís on my smugmug under bugaboos / landscape - you can see the opportunity.

Glad you like the work. Thanks for the feedback much appreciated. Scott

psharvic: Glad you liked the work. It was a very tough day for an old guy. 2600' in 4 miles. And down was tougher. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

aldenparam: It is a gem. Not busy at all. Bugaboos from the traditional trail is fantastic as well. Glad you like the pictures. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Number 3 for me followed by 1 and 2. A great set. I wish I could hike like that ... time for a diet!

I don't remember the bailing as clearly as you. Perhaps you would like to join in March (at -30c) trip. Hiking is just about 1 foot after another as slow as you need to go. Dieting is harder work. Glad you like the set. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Incredible scenery and photography. I will say the first two seem to have a strong blue cast evident in the snow. Is that something you were going for?

The first two were quite dark (after sunset with back light) and the colour seemed/seems right to me but you must think too blue. Maybe the blue night feeling has influenced me. It is an incredible place and was an incredible early October night after a tough hike.

Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
