p.19 #16 · Nikon Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena Image Thread | |
I bought my Plena from Foto Koch, they had the best offer in my case and were also the quickest to respond.
I contacted all the well-known and reputable German official Nikon dealers by e-mail, some had offered comparable discounts, but responded when my Plena was already on its way to me.
However, that was still at the time of the Nikon discount campaign, the Plena is currently 200,- more expensive again.
Apart from that, at the end of the Nikon discount campaign it was almost at the price I was given, at individual dealers for a short time.
So it's not the best time at the moment, when the 200,- Nikon discount is history until the next promotion.
In times of online retail and low price guarantees, you shouldn't expect any great leaps.
This can certainly be extended if you go into the full range, i.e. body category Z8 / Z9 + lenses, i.e. with the corresponding volume.
With a single lens like the Plena, even if it's not cheap, it's more of a category gesture that makes the purchase easier and gives you a better feeling of not having bought overpriced, but in the end it's a drop in the ocean.
Apart from that, the Plena is worth the money, with or without a discount.
However, I have also experienced extreme counter-examples.
One dealer was not prepared to give me a 100,- discount on a Z8 for the release.
I went into the store, took a good look at the body and then told the dealer that if he gave me a 100,- discount, he had sold me a Z8.
He wasn't prepared to give me a 100,- discount, even though I really did spend a lot of money in the store in previous decades.
In the end, he didn't sell a camera and lost a customer who has since invested heavily in the Z-System again.
If I were the owner of the shop, I would fire the salesman.
He drove customers away and lost a lot of sales because he was too stingy to give me a 100,- discount.
If he had given me the 100,- as good will, he would not only have sold me a Z8 at approximately the list price, but also a bunch of high-quality and high-priced lenses and accessories.
The competition has now made the money and the dealer will never make sales with me again.
I'm old-fashioned in that respect.
Live and let live, it's about the gesture, about the right basis for a business, if the turnover is there.
If a retailer gives me the cold shoulder, even though I've already left many thousands there, then that's poison as a basis for doing business together, where both sides should go home satisfied.
This means that my discount ideas are generally always fair for the dealer and respect the realities of today's online trade.
