Forgot to post this picture. I think for tight shot, I rather like the smooth transition and the
out of focus eye is not so harsh or jarring like some other very thin dof lenses.
at f1.8, uncropped.

Very nice example and thanks for sharing.
I think focus transition is the best I’ve seen yet of the portrait FL’s, something similar but better than the 50 f/1.2 and 105 f/1.4E.
But it is also appears far more contrasty and transparent like the 85 f/1.2 and unlike the 105E which has a more mellow rendering.
The rain finally stopped. I think we had rain in the evening for almost 2 weeks straight.
Unfortunately a friend that I asked to come to the park with me is home sick with Covid finally after
espaping it for 3 years so lots of random pictures of somebody else's back around the park
All shot wide opened with Z8 except a few pictures.
Thanks @suteetat for the samples! Bokeh on distant subjects looks excellent, no hint of swirliness at all. The Canon RF and Sony FE options are of course excellent on their own, but the Nikon offering seems to have just a bit more to it.
I don't shoot this focal length enough to warrant a purchase, so I'll still be using my $350 MF Rokinon 135/2 with all its swirl. But another example of something special from the Z lenses.

The combination of sharpness and bokeh wide open is the best I have seen in any lens so far, clearly out doing the Noct, 200mm f2.0 VR, 400mm f2.8 S TC and even 85mm f1.2 S. The only lens I have used that may be even better is the P1 Schneider Blue Ring 150mm f2.8 LS.
Nikon has come up with an absolute wonder of a lens.

OH simply WOW! Love the OOF areas. The second and third shots have sold me, not that I needed convincing.

I didn’t think you would.🤣
This one is a real keeper. Those designers must have sold their soul to the devil in exchange to the recipe for the perfect lens.
No wonder they gave it a name. I bet their sleep with a copy under their pillow. 😀
I wonder what the T stop is. DxO lab tests show that the 85mm f1.2 is a T1.3 lens (to be compared with the RF 85mm f1.2 that is a T1.6 lens). My guess is that this one is very very close to a T1.8.

I think you may be correct with regards to the T stop. That oversized front element *should* let in the correct amount of light for a 135mm f1.8 to be T1.8.

It’ll never be T1.8, as there will always be losses, it it could be a T2.0 which would be excellent transmission.

That there is always some slight loss due to glass elements compared to the theoretical specification is out of question, but there are definitely individual cases in DXO where F-stop and T-stop are identical.
It is possible that the f-stop at Zeiss was specified somewhat more conservatively, so that it is a theoretical F1.9 in real terms.
The Canon RF 135/1.8 was measured with T1.9, I don't think we will see worse T-stop values with the Plena.
@ Bernardi, great images
Especially picture 2 + 3 do not make it easier for me to resist.
I was almost over it, but after these two pictures I find myself looking for justifications for the plena again.

I didn’t think I would even see this lens for another week as that was what I was told by the customer service I talked to yesterday on a separate matter. To my surprise, I received the lens from B&H today. First impression was how well balanced it feels in hand. It is not as big or heavy as I imagined.

Some random test shots, but are kind of shots I am drawn to. No filter, casual hand held. I am impressed with what the lens delivers. Beautiful rendering and great contrast. What a lens. Front element is a bit recessed, not as deep like 58/1.4g, but it may have helped as I did not attach hood.

PS
No portraits from me as I do not post people unless it is a street shot. I am pretty certain plenty of portraits will be posted here by others.
