These are insanely pleasing uses of the Plena. Bravo! I just bought one today because of this and a bunch of the reviews and other great images on this topic here. I’ve never owned a 135mm prime before but this glass just seems like such a fun tool to explore. It seems akin to Peter Karbe’s Leica SL APO Summicron design approach for about half the price - ‘Why not shoot wide open?’ Maybe better in some ways. Great time to be a Nikon shooter.

This continues to be my main outdoor family portrait lens. Funny enough - I have 8 or 9 Z lenses and it's either 400 4.5/800 6.3 or this one glued to my Z8.

Your shots have always been great! I've chatted with you a few times on flickr.
I love my 135 as well but I tend to have the 85 1.2 stuck on my Z8 lol.

Thank you for the kind words. I wouldn't be able to justify both - I have 1.8 but still mainly use the Plena.

Do you usually pick the 85 because you prefer the focal length to 135, or because there’s something about the lens that’s a little “extra”

I'll be honest with you. I always seem to have more room for the 85 1.2 vs the 135 1.8. I think i need to get out to an open area and shoot the 135 1.8 more.
I sold my Sigma 105 1.4 ART for the Plena ... and I love the 105 1.4 .... It was like the perfect focal length ... right in between the 85 and 135.
but I do need to get out more and shoot the 135 more .... give it a proper test.
