Yes, the rendering is quite excellent...it's a nice change from the sometimes funky results from otherwise excellent PF lenses.

Thanks a lot, I'm loving the rendering out of this thing. I can't wait to see what you get when you get your hands on yours.

These look really good. I'm so excited to get mine, but fear it might be quite a while. I have an order in with one of my local stores, but it's a small store. They have excellent trade-in pricing, and since I'll be doing a swap from some of my existing Canon gear, I'll be waiting to do it there. Hopefully they'll have some come in soon, but they did not get any last week, so who knows when an allocation may come their way.

To be fair, unless you order from B&H or Adorama in the first few minutes after midnight of the listing going active you are probably better going with a smaller shop. In the past at least, it seems like Nikon usually trickles at least one or two copies to each store with pre-orders in the first handful of shipments and another one or two in every subsequent shipment. So yeah, maybe they send ten or twenty to the big retailers in each shipment, but they have a list of hundreds of pre-orders when the small shops have like one or two pre-orders. The list tends to empty out faster in the small shops.
Hope you get yours soon! Images look awesome so far - fortunately I don't do wildlife so my wallet is safe But I'm enjoying living vicariously through everyone else. I don't think any lens has been anticipated for so long as this one!

Last one for the night. This one kind of surprised me as the lighting was not on my side. Thankful for the variety that was handed to me today to test this thing out.

Another winner from Nikon, that lens will sell like crazy.
Thanks for a fantastic introduction of it, Kasper!
Agreed. This looks like a fantastic addition to the Nikon lens ecosystem. It will be well received by the user base. An affordable path to long FL, high IQ, sports and wildlife shooting for Nikon mirrorless photographers.
Yes Kasper is doing a great job demonstration the capabilities of this lens. A very valuable resource for the FM community.

Background rendering is really nice on the Nikon and it does seem it needs to be stopped down a little for best sharpness.
Better lens hood on the Nikon. Slightly stiffer zoom ring.

I’m really liking how this lens renders for a super zoom. The examples posted by you and Kasper have been great.
I have an observation about the comparison picture. The individual pictures in that post above, look to be the source (edit: on second glance those may not be the source) and are sharper than what’s presented in the comparison. Maybe there was an issue combining the three?

Great seeing some examples. I was on the waiting list but I decided to cancel it. I will just keep the 500pf. But it looks like this lens will be a winner. The only hint I’ve heard is that the list is very long of people who preordered. Hopefully the wait won’t be too long.

Thanks for those pics and images.
Have you tested stability? I am not so much interested in comparing as I am in knowing how the Nikon alone performs. Would you compare stability please?
Do you think it likely a person could handhold-shoot a short (*up to 10 seconds*) video clip and achieve smoothness ?
And thank you for your ongoing images and comments too. How smooth do you feel the 180-600's VR is?
Late thought: I may be asking too much from you guys..... because unless a person shoots some video they might not have a feeling for how stable it has to be.
