As an owner of many Sony cameras like x2 A1s for BIF and Wildlife, an A7RV for landscape, architecture, and portraits, an A7IV originally for events and travel and now an A6700 and older A7C I have decided how to modify that lineup. The A7C was already on sale so that is not a problem. I will put the A7IV and A6700 on sale I think and buy the A7C II.
I like the features of my A7RV over the A7CR for what I use it for so that’s a keeper and I think the newer features of the A7C II make it a good replacement for both the A7IV and A6700.
Will think about it more but after a few hours thinking about that is how I’m leaning. What do you think? More than happy to be questioned on my thinking.

Happy that the rumours appear to be true. I will be ordering the A7CII to replace my dying A7S as soon as pre-orders open tomorrow. Very much looking forward to it!

You will love it. Jumping from original A7 gen to A7IV+ gen is night and day.

Copying this message from the rumour thread:
The A7CR definitely brings something new to the table... but isn't the gap between A7C and A7Cii minimal if you only care about stills?
- Slightly? better sensor (24Mp vs 33Mp)
- Significantly? better AF
- Slightly? better EVF
- Extra dial, extra custom button and new menus
In Europe, I just bought a new A7C for 1500 euro from Amazon, the A7CII is 2400. Is the above worth it the 900 extra euros?
I keep going back and forth on whether I should return it and buy the A7CII...! In addition to the above, it seems like the grip of the A7CII is noticeable larger as well. Carrying the A7C with one hand and a wrist strap is not super comfortable... and the new one might improve with the larger grip. That's one of the few things I am not loving from the A7CII.

As someone who likes to take pictures while traveling frequently and prefer to pack light...the A7cR is the perfect camera for me. Problem is, the A1 can handle that duty just fine, along with a bunch of other things that the A7cR can't match, so regardless it's going nowhere. So this becomes a "want" vs. a "need", which I try to avoid as much as I can.
And while I can't complain about the price, for my needs a used one at some point probably makes more sense.
Couple great additions to the A7cr is the better battery and ibis which both take up room and add weight. For the capabilities inside the A7cr, it’s size and weight are really quite amazing.

Apart from the better battery, I think I would rather have the original A7R.

Aren’t the majority of purchases the last few years wants and not needs?

I still have it and need to wear ear plugs whenever that shutter goes off. IBIS is very helpful for my photography as the majority of lenses I use have no stabilization and when travelling I don’t have a tripod.

I mean they are getting bulkier and now they call small what was normal just a few years ago.
I don't completely understand a7c as a main lens-interchangeable camera. Lenses contribute much more to overall size and weight unless one decides to stick to smallest lenses which lack in one or another department.
A buyer ready to pay $3,000 can definitely get a better regular sized camera for $3,900 - so this is not about money for most.
Better ergonomics make picture taking process more pleasant. Extra 200g and a couple cm of extra height - is it too much to pay for a better camera?

They declare 7-stop IBIS on both new cameras. Is it a completely new IBIS?
I expected that a7cII would come with 5-stop and a7cR would come with 8-stop IBIS.

Was just thinking....add the new 16-35 f/4 PZ to the A7cR, and you've got quite a powerful & compact landscape/travel combo if you can survive with f/4 speed. Or the Tamron 20-40 2.8.
I originally said the new 16-35 2.8II would be a good match, and while I'm sure it is from a performance standpoint, seeing it in a review attached to the A7cR makes me think it's too big to take advantage of the A7cR's size, even though it is indeed smaller than the 1st version.

I hope these new cameras, especially R, will force lens makers to produce more quality compact lenses. Today, many small lenses are not as good optically as, say, tiny G trio and their flaws will be exaggerated by bigger sensors.

Wish they would make a high end version of the A7c body. I'd be willing to pay for it. Something like an A1 in an A7C body. Something for photographers, screw video spec's. I had high hopes for the 7CR but I'll keep waiting. Continue to suffer with my RV
