I just got the CV 28/2.8 Color-Skopar "Type I" style lens. It looks amazing! While the Type II lens does focus closer at 0.5m and is about 30 grams lighter, there's something about the Type I with its black-painted brass barrel and clicky aperture that I really love. It also appears even slimmer than the Type II.
Congrats! The Type I is next on my list.

You ever thought about getting a close up filter for this lens? That would take care of the min focus distance.
I still think just unscrewing that silver post on the Type I will let the lens rotate to at least 0.5m before it unscrews off the base Been meaning to try this with my 40 2.8 but haven't yet.

Great news for the CV 28/2.8 Color-Skopar! Both my Type I and II copies of this lens are perfectly aligned with the rangefinder and well centered. In my experience, it seems that this lens will have very consistent performance.

What screw are you referring about?
The silver post that stops the focus movement at 0.7m. It looks like it could unscrew and allow for focusing below 0.7m.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing, I will check this out.
Removed it on the 40 2.8 just now, and it allows for focusing down to about 0.6m where the lens naturally stops itself and thankfully does not unscrew off the base. Hopefully the 28 will move further to 0.5m since we know the Type II does. Will post a photo of the 40 mod in the 40 thread.
I got mine yesterday as well. I’m very happy with it so far. I still love the Voigtlander 28/2 but this is substantially smaller. I ordered another Tiffen filter from Amazon, removing the glass to make a mini hood like the 40/2.8. The 2 lenses together make for a nice range along with my Voigtlander 21/3.5 Type I.

With the CV 28/2.8 Color-Skopar Type I lens, removing that particular tall screw post allows one to focus as close as 0.6 meters, similar to what you discovered with the 40/2.8 lens. While this feature might be handy for close-up shots in Live View mode, it might not be enough to justify the inconvenience of losing RF mode and not being aware of when the coupling stops working.
MDF with screw in place (~0.7m)
Removing the tall screw post
New MFD with screw removed (~0.6m at the letter 'm')

Sigh, I have to agree. These lenses focus just below 0.7m already, so we're not even gaining an entire 0.1m reduction in MFD. I had hoped this would allow the lens to rotate really far to something like 0.3m, but alas it was not to be!
I am really liking the 28/2.8 Type I. As I figured, it pairs perfectly with the 40/2.8 and the 75/1.9. I’m enjoying it on the Rhine River today along with other things 😁

That's awesome, Bruce!
Let's see some sample photos, everyone! I'm sure many members on FM have this lens, just like I do.
For the CV 28/2.8 Type I "black" mount, you only need to apply white paint for the 6-bit code. This is because the camera's 6-bit sensor recognizes the black mount as the black code.
I personally coded my own lens as the Leica 28/5.6 Summaron because it provides the most effective in-camera vignetting correction compared to other options I've tested.

Did you already post examples w and w/o the Summaron code selected?

Sure, I forgot to share it. On the top, there's the Summaron with 6-bit code for vignetting correction, and on the bottom, the in-camera code is 'OFF'. The Summaron corrects vignetting the most, but the Leica 28/2.8 Elmarit is also a good choice, and it might represent the lens better in the EXIF data.
TOP (28 Summaron 6-bit code), BOTTOM (in-camera code OFF)
Here are a few images from the other day in Mainz Germany. I am very happy with the rendering and sharpness along with the size of course. I think these were all shot around f5.6 to f8.
