It's probably not a bad concept - Mirrorless f hybrid. I'd say that it would stop all the griping about older lens compatibility but I'm sure there'd be a rash of complaints that it wasn't compatible with Z mount . . .
I’m ready to pre-order, IF it has IBIS. I’d LIKE it to have an EL15 battery. I’m aware both of those things would mean a bigger, heavier body (an advantage in my book). I’ll be using MF lenses a lot, so it needs to handle them as well as a Z5(6/7/8/9). The Z5 is the camera it needs to beat. But the deal breaker for me would be lack of IBIS.
Most of the time Nikon Rumors is correct to the extend that it can be questioned whether they are a rumor site of a slightly anticipated announcement site.
They were wrong on this one yes, it's never 100%.
I personally never gave any credit to the theory that we were going to get a 2,000 US$ ZF with the Z8/Z8 sensor stack. The new 25mp non stacked version of the rumor is a lot more credible and is also compatible with the possibility of getting finally a major firmware update for the Z6II/Z7II delivering more reliable tracking AF.
Nikon can go amazing AF with stacked sensors, overall the best there is on the market, that we know. But to re-capture the mid market they need to extend that technological lead to non stacked sensor based cameras.
The remaining question mark to me is whether the ZF will get dual Expeed 6 processor, a single Expeed 7 or dual Expeed 7. I believe it will be single Expeed 7, but not sure.
New rumor now stating it will potentially have a Hi-res mode? We shall see. Depending on the ergonomics and the battery used, and if it has IBIS, it may well replace my Z5 as my walkaround prime camera. I'll have to see the price and pre-order date before I make a decision but it gets more tempting as time goes on.

It would be interesting if it did what the X100 does with the "digital teleconverter" where it upscales in camera. Not really interested in a focus shift style option in this type of body.

I think since they are calling it "HiRes" it will be akin to focus shift, and possibly trickle down to newer bodies. Agree I'm not really interested in such a sensor shift mode. Weirdly, I seem to be the target audience for the rumored B&W switch on the photo/video thumb switch. I like to shoot B&W but hate menu diving for it, and that location is darn near perfect for me. One I get a look at it I may wind up just blindly pre-ordering. Probably from a store this time, and not Nikon USA like I did with the 180-600

I can't imagine shooting a B/W jpeg on Nikon like I do on my Fuji. Much rather edit to mono in post personally.

The rumor sites might as well speculate that it's going to have a 87MP triple-stacked sensor, with 4 card slots. I'd believe that as much as I believe the rest of the BS they spew.
There's an alleged leaker in the comments saying he's held the Z F as recently as a month ago and it has the single SD slot next to the battery just like the Z Fc. I believe that more than I believe Z8 specs and dual SD.

Instant non-starter for me then. Single slot is fine if its CFxB for me, single Sd in the battery compartment (meaning Zfc battery too) not going to cut it.

The Z8 is only rated for 40 more shots by CIPA than the Z Fc
If it had anything close to Z8 performance, it would require a CFE slot. Since it won't, it won't, from both a heat dissipation and cost perspective.
I treat my single slot cameras like I treat a film camera. Anything that turns out is a bonus, but there's always a tiny risk (much smaller with digital than film) that something might fubar my session's output. Just is what it is for certain price points. You don't use them as A cameras, ever, especially if money or contracts are in play.
I actually went back and read that person's comments/leaks and they don't make sense. Claiming it's basically a FF Zfc with the z8/z9 sensor but one card slot?
I could see one or the other but the combination that they are claiming makes no sense. We'll all see at some point in the next few weeks I guess.
My personal impression is that we received too big amount of inconsistent rumors (hi res sensor, next no hi-res sensor rather 24-25 MPix, retro, one card, next could be 2 cards etc…). i feel that from those rumors could make 3 different cameras.
It all seems rather redundant, having a Z5, Z6, and Zf all w/ similar sensor performance and in not that different of price points. If the Zf turns out like the majority of the rumors, it feels like a Z5II in a costume.

Now you know how Fuji users feel...you pick the costume you like best and get the same pictures from all of them

Remember when Sony first launched the NEX line? Was like ten bodies and two lenses. Always joked it was a ICL instead of an ILC. You could swap a bunch of different bodies onto your one lens.
Anywho, the Zfc is a costume and apparently a success. While it’d be nice for the Zf to show off something new, the reality is that it likely could very well end up playing dress up like the Zfc. Maybe that slightly reduces the appeal, but if it also drastically reduces the development effort it could still be a successful profit vehicle.
The rumors are just getting silly now, so probably all we know is that a Zf will probably appear in the next six months or so and will just have to wait to see what exactly it is.
