Some of the only truths I've learned about photography over the years is that people will always argue technicalities of sensor size, and given enough time threads will always derail into discussions not relating to the original subject
- Expeed 7 processor
- LCD and EVF specs are the same as Z6II (same size and resolution)
- It can shoot 10-bit H.265 HEVC video (SDR/HLG/N-log)
- 4k 30p is full size 60p is cropped
- 1080 120p
- AF (273 focus points) comes with features from Z8/Z9 with 3D tracking
- New feature related to AF (new for Nikon cameras) – no idea what it is (yet)
- Magnesium Alloy body
- High Extended Shooting for RAW and HEIF
- Shutter selection options: Mechanical / Electronic Front-Curtain / Auto
- Size: 144mm x 101mm x 57mm
- IBIS
- Max. shutter: 1/8000s
- Black camera body only (for now)
- 24.4 MP BSI-CMOS sensor
- Weight: 700g (inc. battery, the Z5 is 590g, the Z6II is 615g )
- Dimensions: 144mm x 101mm
- Up to 30fps (JPG/HEIF)
- 4k 60 video
- USB C PD (fast-charging technology based on the USB-C standard)
- ISO 100-64,000 (for comparison the Z6II ISO range is 100-51,200)
- EN-EL15 battery
- The Z f logo is moved to the left (the Zfc has it on the right)
- Dual memory card slots (SD+MicroSD) – this is probably why the first reports came out with only -one memory card slot, the second slot could be hidden and be used just like the internal memory on some cameras
- Pixel Shift: new high-res mode will be implemented for the first time in a Nikon mirrorless camera
- August-September announcement, shipment before the end of 2023
- Improved autofocus compared to Z5/Z6II
- A few different lens kits/bundles will be available in the $2,000-$2,500 price range
- Price for body only: $1,999
- One of the bundles will be with the Nikkor Z 40mm f/2 (SE) lens (no new lens will be introduced with the Zf)
- Very similar (but improved) design/layout from the Nikon Zfc
- Small LCD screen on top for aperture display
- New 3rd function on the sub lever of the shutter speed dial (besides photo/video) for B&W mode (B&W/Photo/Movie)
- Has a little grip/bump like the Nikon Df (see the mockup pictures)
- Better build quality compared to the Nikon Zfc
- Fully articulating screen
Rumors for this seem to have dried up fast. I'd expect either something about it at the BILD expo next week or a push of the announcement and radio silence until Oct/Nov at this rate.

I think they’ve pulled it back for the inclusion of the Pez dispenser into the the body.
I've used the past-few days of radio silence to overthink and re-evaluate about this camera and I'm probably going to skip. It looks great and fun, but there is nothing so far in the rumored specs that "wow" me enough to get over my biggest hurdle, which is ergonomics. One of the top things that brought me back to the Z system is that it felt perfect in my hand and the button layout worked so well for me, something that would likely change with the Zf. I'll likely pick up a Z8 or wait 6-8 months and see what the Z6iii rumor start saying and keep my Z7 as my backup camera.

The radio silence is really strange. Last week's Petapixel podcast hinted at a major announcement today and Nikon seemed like the most likely candidate to me (maybe Panasonic, but definitely not Sony and probably not Canon)... but I guess we would have seen some kind of leak or rumor by now..
I'm also still a bit torn on the Zf. I've always wanted a camera like this (full frame, retro-styled) and I think it would be a ton of fun with Voigtländer Z-mount lenses, but on the other hand most of the lenses I'd want to use are F-mount and I also have some AF-D glass I like so maybe a D780 or D850 would actually be more fun to use with those... decisions decisions...

Very true. They did say September was going to be a busy month and much more stacked than August, and Sony seems to be announced already. I'll be at the BILD expo tomorrow, we'll see if there is anything exciting there.
I really enjoy shooting with my Fuji XT and XPro cameras. It seems gimmicky, but it changes how I interact with the camera, and generally how I shoot. I've had that experience on my Fuji X cameras for a few years now, and I'll be happy to have it on my Nikon cameras as well.
It sounds like spec-wise, it'll be roughly a Z6, with something approaching a Z9's AF. That'll do the job for anything but wildlife, for me.
It's not a necessary camera by any means, but it should be fun. I might not be able to own a stable of sports cars and pick one to match my mood, but I can do so with cameras, and I'm hoping this will be a nice camera for a day out, when larger cameras seem like a chore.

D780 is lighter than D850; therefore I find it more pleasant to use. It doesn't have the resolution of D850, but it works like my Z6 in live view.
High ISO performance is excellent.
You know I want to like this idea. But I kind of hate it.
I bought a zfc and was all excited. But the thing is terrible to use for me. It’s crazy uncomfortable to hold, and all those analogue dials look cool, but really suck compared to a modern Nikon layout.
I hope everyone else enjoys it. But the retro thing isn’t for me. What I really want is a killer apsc camera to replace the D500. But hey I’m a bird photographer!
Well I'm back from the BILD expo and as I posted elsewhere, although no product launches Nikon IMO (probably biased) had the best display. TONS of camera/lenses on display (more than any other manufacturer), and constant speakers on stage with some really good information and stories.

You think they retracted the camera after Sony's new releases? They may have realized that it (ZF) couldn't compete.
Perhaps it'll be released a few months later but with a higher resolution sensor.
No, simply because product supply chains are massively long. If its due to be released this month, it would have entered full production a few months ago, packing material and marketing would have been made, etc. Swapping a new sensor in would require a retooling and delay it more than a few months. Plus then you have however many "old style" that you can't sell and have to just scrap - not economical to send them back and replace the entire sensor assembly.

I had a zfc and it was frankly, junk. I was shocked at how plasticky and flimsy it was. It doesn't even compare to the build quality of the Df. Even the Fuji retro bodies are several levels higher in terms of build quality. I hope this Zf is better.
