It's disappointing to learn that the new Q3 is freezing a lot. In a video review, the reviewer mentioned that the car froze twice within one hour, and they had to take out the battery to fix it.

Mine froze once... When I had forgot to turn it off and it went to sleep mode for several days. Battery was still charged.. had to remove it. Other than that.. have not had a problem with freezing

I saw that. Disappointing, for sure, but given how complex these cameras are these days, not wholly unexpected. All you can hope for is that camera companies become really good at pushing out software/firmware updates.
I'm curious about people's impressions of image quality as well as shooting experience of the Q3 vs the Q2.

This should answer any questions on how the market is reacting to the Q3 teething issues.

Does distortion come into play when comparing a cropped 50 vs a true 50?
No.
If the subject is the same size in the frame and the angle of view is the same then you'll get exactly the same shot with the following differences. The apparent DoF will be deeper using the same aperture and the potential for noise will increase due to the greater level of enlargement (for the cropped shot). Also in the Q3 case you'll need to take into account the drop in resolution. Other than that they're the same. You'll also be shooting from the same position.

My M11 has never frozen. Not once. The only time I take the battery out is to access the SD Card. Even that is infrequent because I have come to downloading my images and charging through the USB cable. The M11 is very easy to live with. It goes everywhere with me, sits plugged in on my desk at home, and has never given me one second trouble.
Considering the M11 is basically the king of frozen cameras I just don’t trust what’s coming out of Wetzlar post pandemic. Lenses or cameras.
My 10R has been faultless and I’m sticking to it. Otherwise I would go with Film. (Old and well used like a used M3).

Count me in as another “my M11 doesn’t freeze” M11 photographer. Probably the reason you don't hear more from us is because “my M11 doesn’t freeze” doesn't make for a very thrilling thread topic.

My M11 has frozen exactly once. 2nd day of ownership. None since then. That's over a year.
Some M11's have issues. But those who don't usually don't bother reporting they're having no issues.

Indeed. In my opinion it’s a non issue. It’s a lens optically designed for “post” distortion correction. Nothing wrong with that because IQ is still fantastic after correction. About same level as the 28/1.4 Lux. The lens is a 27mm after correction so it makes sense that Leica markets it as a 28mm lens.
I am glad I picked up a Q2. I am loving it.

Off topic but the new Q3 battery works perfectly fine in my original SL 601. Happy to see the price come back to reality for spare batteries that will work in all SL cameras and Q2s and Q3s.

Regarding the Q3, it is a hard pass for me.
The only thing I like about the new camera is USB-charging. It would be nice for travel. But honestly I'm based at home 95% of the year, and I always have one battery ready on the charger. I'd come home from shooting, pop and load, and I'm ready for the next day. With how easy it is to change batteries on these Leica's, it's just faster and more convenient than fiddling with cables.
As mentioned by Fred and others, I much prefer the simpler and sleeker design of the Q1/Q2, along with the buttons on the left side. I rarely even use the LCD for shooting, so the extra bulk/weight of the tilt screen is a big detriment.
As for autofocus, I don't trust AF-C unless it is on the same level as the latest Sony (A1/A7VR) cameras. There's nothing worse than unreliable AF-C. I don't even consider the A7C good enough, and I doubt AF-C on the Q3 is on that level. I much rather shoot in AF-S which is more reliable on CDAF cameras (and probably on the Q3 with PDAF as well)
The biggest drawback is the reported freezing issues though... that is really disappointing. I'll stick with my Q1 silver and Q2 reporter both of which are rock solid.

Folks over at LUF are reporting laggy EVF, long EVF blackouts, and 2-3x worse battery life compared to the Q2. I wonder if there's any validity to those claims.
