Interesting video. I agree about the too strong magenta and slightly off White Balance of the M11 although I find the Q3 a little too yellow. My preference is sort of in the middle.
The Q3 is incrediblt sharp. The prints I saw from it were amazing. But so are the M11 prints if you don't shoot the Lux below f2.
I find that I actually prefer the VM 28mm Ultron ASPH vII on the M11 to either of the tested options.

How is the Q3 AF on quick moving subjects indoors in very low light? The Q2 was quite poor in this regard and I'm hoping the Q3 will see improvement.
Significant improvement. From CDAF on the Q2 to full hybrid PDAF/CDAF/DFD on the Q3. Looks remarkably similar to the Panasonic S5 mk2. On launch night in the Leica Store AF was essentially instant and face/eye detect worked perfectly.

It appears that some of the 28/1.4 Lux samples suffered from misfocus, possibly due to a miscalibrated rangefinder or lens.
However, the 28/1.7 Lux lens shows impressive resolution with less CA, which explains why Leica decided to use the same lens for the 60MP Q3. Nevertheless, the images captured with the 28/1.4 Lux lens have contrast magic.

Reid Reviews (pay wall, well worth it) Q2 vs Q3 resolution tests were quite an interesting read. Long story short: The Q2's Raw images have higher contrast making them appear snappier. In terms of resolution the Q3 has a slight edge in the center and the Q2 has a slight advantage off-axis. Basically it's a draw.
I wonder if the sensor stack on the Q3's Sony sourced 60MP sensor is affecting the contrast and off-axis resolution and/or is the now 7+ year old 28/1.7 Summilux needing a refresh? Also, will this Q2-Q3 resolution performance profile carry over when comparing the SL2 to next year's SL3?
BTW, I still have a hunch that Leica will pull out of its hat a modern day rebirth of the original film Leica CL with 40mm Summicron-C, called the Q3-40.

"or is the now 7+ year old 28/1.7 Summilux needing a refresh?"
I do wonder if we may see a new Q3 model with a refreshed, maybe even non 28mmFL lens at some point. 35mm?

Has anyone with both Q2 and Q3 tried using the new BP-SCL6 battery on the Q2?
If so, does it function normally at full capacity without a firmware update? Also, can the original Leica Q2 or Nitecore ULSL chargers properly charge the new BP-SCL6 battery?

Hard to say. It could be something as simple as sample variation. Unless we see Roger C do a test over 10 cameras it’ll be hard to speculate. Really though the difference between 47 and 61MP probably isn’t a big enough difference to see any real world differences in resolution. I would think it’s the last thing to worry about when upgrading. The sensor has other benefits that are the big headlines.
If they make a Q3-40 or 50 the wait time will be immense and I will try to be as close to the front as possible.

Handling the Q/Q2/Q3 isn't that much more compact than a M10/M11 with a Lux 35 mounted right? I really want to try the Q. The M10/Lux35 combo is serving me very well. It's just a little on the heavier side.

Where did we get the "Sony sourced" information from? I don't remember reading anything other than speculation on that. Wondering if I missed that along the way..

Have you ever heard of another source providing 60mpx BSI CMOS sensor to the ICL camera industry?
Where else would Leica source it currently? Remember Leica had to source the sensors years before the release of the M11. Sony had this spec sensor in their catalog already back then. Aside from Canon for their own use, do you know of anyone else providing these type of sensors to the ICL camera industry? Nikon tried hard to use another source for the Z8 and the project failed. Except Canon shooters pretty much everone is shooting a Sony these days. Sony is by far the most likely source.

1bwana1's answer is very thorough. Sony sensors in other other Leica cameras are the SL2-S, M11& M11M and the SL3 is coming up. Unless one is a Canon camera user, with rare exceptions, it's basically a Sony sensor world now days. Of course the sensor stack is Leica's design.

Let's not forget that the sensor wafer itself is just an analog device that captures photons and converts to voltage. Leica does make a unique contribution at this level with the custom microlens layer on the sensor stack.
The significance of the conversion to digital and the data processor is where Leica creates its most important differentiating contributions to the image.
I don't know why so many users of some systems are so sensitive in not wanting Sony to be making the sensors in their cameras.

Pretty much what I expected given my experience with the M11 freezing issues. I’m not going anywhere near a new Leica camera until all the freezing has been fixed.
For what it’s worth though, Sony Tough cards always caused my Q2 to freeze, so you might try another card if you’re using a Sony.

Regarding the sensor discussion but specific to the microlens array:
A big advantage the Q/Q2/Q3 + fixed lens has over the M body + 28 Lux-M is the Q sensor’s microlenses are specifically designed for the fixed lens that’s attached. The M11/10 sensor’s microlenses have to accomdate a wide range of focal lengths.

True. And this is one of the reasons we’re screaming for Leica to make other focal lengths. And also why Leica is reluctant to do so.

I've sold both the Q3's I've received. I'm confident they will resolve these issues....at some point. But it is a shame they don't do more beta testing before releasing products. Btw, I was using Sandisk extreme pro cards.

I can say with sincerity that I don’t give a rats arse where the sensor comes from. I am just thrilled that Leica 24x36mm sensors are as good as anything out there right now. An M11 with an APO Summicron is a potent combination right now.
Also there’s definitely more going on than just the wafer. Not only the micro lenses but even having a CFA free variant for the Monochrom. Whatever the fabricator is they’re obviously happy to deal in the smaller numbers that Leica uses. This is probably reflected in the camera prices a bit. These are not off the shelf sensors, once you include the toppings. Let alone the rest of the imaging pipeline. I think some think they’re going to get SOny colours if the M’s have a Sony wafer. That’s not the case.
The numbers do indicate a probable Sony wafer, If it is it has advantages of potential scale manufacturing and also reliable production runs for spares etc…. If it’s not, so what. It’s the best smaller format high res sensor on the market, for now.

Agreed, my M11 combined with the great glass available for it creates absolutely stunning detail, and rendering in imaging. Who makes the sensor just doesn't matter to me.
