Thanks...70-200 usually at wide open. 24-70 for everything else. Is not so much about the lens but is how you light up the riders. Is a MTB race and inside the trail with dense foliage in the middle of Summer. Is mandatory to light up the riders. Otherwise, you will get dark, green looking mess of photos.

Makes sense and agreed that technique/light is everything. Was mostly trying to get a feel for the working distances and framing as I've wanted to try out MTB photography if I ever get the chance. They don't mind you using flash during a race like this? Seems like in some of the shots you're pretty close up.
I use a Godox AD400 pro to light up these shots. They are all off camera strobe light. Is different than using a speedlite. The subject here is too complex to dive into. Generally, no one is complaining and it shouldn't be because you aren't shooting in a pitch black environment. Panning shots are close but my light is at a fixed distance...regardless what lens or the shooting distance...
All with Z9 and Tamron Z 150-500mm. I am a little shocked at how accurate the Z9's GPS is. It shows me the exact spot on the sideline these images were taken. I guess I should have known that but I assumed the accuracy would be rather lower than that.
