I recently processed this Florida in March image and shared it in the lens thread. I have to say that I’m starting to feel there is something special about the Z8 RAW files, mainly the contrast and the quality of the color, and the way the images so easily and gracefully present themselves in Lightroom without needing a ton of processing work. Or maybe it’s all in my mind?

Beautiful light, well captured, Ross.
Thank you very much, Patrick! The light and location give me fond vibes of winter in Florida. And the connection I made with the Z8. I know it’s just one of many pieces of gear out there, but over the years there are a few times when I bond especially well with particular tools in the creative process.
I am finally getting around to processing some of my images taken back in May at Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in central Oregon. The images below were taken wide-open with the Z8 and the 400mm f/4.5 lens with the 1.4x teleconverter attached.
Here are some more images from my trip to Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon. Images taken on 5/14/2026. Where I live (northwest Washington), short-eared owls have all migrated north by mid-April. I was surprised to find one at Malheur in mid-May. I saw it again the next day (but further out in the fields). It was perfect habitat for SEOs. I saw several northern harriers too, but they were further afield. Images taken wide open with a Z8 and the 400mm f/4.5 with 1.4x teleconverter.
