No photos yet, as I just received my 50mm f1.4 GM late today from a GT authorized Sony dealer, saved $70. It is so similar to my 24 f1.4 GM (sold) and 35 f.14 GM. There are some minor differences:
The 50GM has an extra focus hold button and a Iris Lock. The Iris lock keeps you at A, or if you are at a selected f-stop it allows you to move to other f-stops, but not to A. So it does not lock you at any aperture, accidentally moving the aperture ring will still change the f-stop (unless you are in A).
The 50 GM has a heavy clunk if you move it too fast (lightly shake it), the 35GM is silent, as I believe my 24GM was.
The lens hoods are slightly different, the 50GM hood is about 7mm taller and 3 mm wider, so with each lens and its caps and hood on reversed, the 50GM is 3mm wider than the 35GM, the heights are identical. But the 50GM hood fits on the 35GM and locks in place, even reversed. The 35GM hood just spins on the 50GM and won''t lock, it does not fit reversed.
Unlike my 24 & 35GM, which were made in Thailand, the 50GM is made in China...maybe that is why it is $100 less at list price. But fit and finish looks to be the same.
Yes, it's not so creamy, soft and perfect like 1.2GM and this was one of the reasons, why i preferred 50/1.4 GM over 1.2 even for comparable price (at least for now).
I just ordered this lens, so anxious to give it a try. I kept putting off getting a 50 as I already have the 35 GM, but seems like they will compliment each other along with the 20G for wider scenes. I have the 70-200 for anything longer.
Now that I have this ranged covered with primes, I'm thinking of selling my 24-70 GM II.
