Thank you so much ! FM members like you are the reason I joined this forum, and in the last year ( with help and encouragement ) started posting some of my shots. I'm honored you voted .

John these are beautiful shots, you got a nice low perspective really sharp and nailed the exposure. I love the snowy owls, ours are just starting to show up around here.

Thanks Dave. Snowy owls are a favorite winter target. Looking forward to seeing some of your's.
Beautiful set John. I am thinking about making weekend trips up north this winter to try to see and capture these magestic owls. Any pointers on where / when is the best time? ebird has some data on recent sightings link

Thank you. As far as where to find them. I'm certainly not a expert. I live near Lake Erie, they generally show when temps drop here. Sometimes as early as Nov-Dec. through early to mid spring Feb. - March. As long as its still fairly cold here they will hang around. Every year is different, some years there are more sightings and some years fewer. I generally find them near the Lake shore, break walls, docks and occasionly on beaches. In Cleveland there are reported sightings on airport properties ( open fields and runways ). I use to msg a guy living near VA. beach, he would always have great shots ( that's what started our conversation ). If I were going to travel to find them I would go as far north as possible somewhere near a large body of water and with open fields near. A photographer I meet this year is in UP Michigan now I believe looking for them.
As I said before I"m not a expert, this general info I have learned from a few years experience. I'm sure there are many places to spot them. Like much of the wildlife I look for , and mentioned here on this forum, I can go out looking for them many times and never see one. One day I saw 4 in the same day. Just seeing them doesn't make it a good photo opportunity. They tend to be far away many times. But if you put in the hours over a period of time, you can be successful. Dress warm
Thank you taking the time to share your years of experience based advice, it is very helpful. I will keep an eye out on the reporting sightings and plan according.
