Just went through this entire thread, fantastic images, what a little gem. However I ended up ordering the CV35 f1.4 SC from Stephen @ Camera quest tonight to give it a try to see how I get along with it. Looking forward to dedicating it to monochrome work on M10M.
Making my way through this informative thread as I await delivery of my new 35 SR….which was ordered after viewing the images you posted! 😊 Can’t wait, and, I guess you eventually made the jump.

I just got this email from Leica this morning:

Good morning, Mr. Miranda,
We just received our 2nd shipment of these hoods. This batch is correct! We are shipping your new hood out today. Please accept my apologies for the confusion.
Kind regards

Therefore, the initial shipment mistakenly contained the wrong item, which had the same hood as the original product. Based on my understanding, Leica has acknowledged the error and intends to send the appropriately redesigned hood to previous 35/1.4 Steel Rim owners.
Continuing to make my way through this excellent thread. You really can’t make this stuff up. Thanks to Fred, and others, for the diligence and reporting.

I did make the jump this year, made some changes to how I wanted to capture images for this calendar year. I am exclusively shooting the SRR with my new M11-D and it has been a stellar set up for me.
Glad the recently shared images helped, enjoy the upcoming lens and please do share your captures. 🙂👍

Purchased the SR reissue on Sunday and it arrived today. 1/7/25 build date. Lens is perfect. Here’s a quick snap to test it out. I think I’m going to love it alongside the 35 APO.

A perfect blend of vintage and modern in 35mm – what an awesome combination!

Thanks, Fred! Now to the 50. That classic Lux is intriguing… I just checked out the 1.2 reissue at SF Leica Tuesday, but may need to reconsider.

thanks to this thread....I have one coming my way. Has anyone done a comparison to the Cron 8E at f/2? Curious if there are similarities? I have a LLL 35 8E I will compare against, which is close.....

Very nice, looking forward to your images.
The 0.7m mod is something I am working myself up to doing. 😁

Please share your results. I have to say, it’s definitely worth it, and when done correctly, it won’t affect the lens focus or introduce any handling issues. I can’t believe Leica didn’t make the 'reissue' with a 0.7m minimum focus distance.

Having had this lens for a while, and I compared images with the CV 35 1.4 both SC and MC versions. The SR just has a better rendering. I can't really describe it. They all have character, but SR has a smoothness about it that's lacking in the CVs. It may be owner's bias, but I think it's fairly obvious.

I share the feeling, I had the CV35mm f1.4 and while I think it has wonderful qualities, there is something very special about how the SSR handles glow and rendering. I also must admit that the silver on black (M11-D) just looks stunning and retro at the same time (subjective).
The hardest thing I've had to get used is the infinity lock, I know its just memory muscle to keep that button pressed. I rack to infinity everytime out of habit to aquire focus, its sort my starting point. Other than that, it has become one of my all time favorite lenses. I will perform the close focus 0.7m mod sometime soon.
