Do you know who’s doing the mod? I messaged Yuri.
Yuri is not going to do it. He worked with Fred in exploring and documenting this possibility, that's what I read.
My first inclination is to send the step by step doc to Don over at DAG to get his take on it. On the other hand, I'm starting to dive into the mod itself to see if perhaps I can do it here at home. 🤔

That’s right. @yukosteel did the mod out of curiosity, and I provided my copy for testing. There was some risk involved since Yuri was figuring things out, but I felt it was worth it. Now, we have step-by-step instructions for the mod. A skilled technician can follow these steps, or if someone is patient and experienced with lens modifications, they could also take it on.

I wonder why Leica didn’t get it to 0.7m to start with if it’s technically possible. It’s basically the only weakness to this lens.
Their explanation was that they never produced a 35/1.4 Lux Pre-asph with a 0.7m MFD (without goggles). However, for the new Leica 50/1.4 Lux Pre-ASPH "reissue" they had previously made a version (v3) with a 0.7m MFD, so it was added to the new one.
I’m with you on this. I don't see a technical reason not to extend the MFD. Maybe reaching 0.7m would require a larger lens and different engineering (more $$). Yuri’s modification only allows for a maximum of 0.76m.

I’m surprised it doesn’t impact focus accuracy at other distances. I’d assume something has to give.

The mod should not affect focus accuracy at other distances since that part remains untouched. Any potential focus inconsistency would be in the new focus range (0.76m to 1m), but Yuri carefully ground that section with RF accuracy in mind.

Just got this lens, and interestingly the previous owner sent it to Spain for close focus mods to 0.75m ish.
Looking forward to shooting with it
Can you ask the previous owner who's the person in Spain performing this modification? Thanks!

That's a good point to clarify, I did not know that the mod only allowed to 0.76m. Just like anything, you would need to weight the cons and pros but for me, it is something I definitely want to do. Thanks Fred !

For the group to know, I contacted Don at DAG to see if he was interested in performing this mod. No go, he's so busy with work that this is of no interest to him at all. I'm going down my list of people that I know and will report back.

Sorry for my noobie question. How do i post pictures here? I am loving the leica glow at 0.75 MFD wide open.
Edit—— the upload option showed up after 25 posts. Now i got it, just need to be a member for Upload and sell
Nick, did you perform the modification on your lens? I’m asking because you mentioned you like the glow from 0.75m wide open, and that’s not possible with the stock lens unless you’re using a close-up adapter while using it on a mirrorless camera.

The mfd is the only thing holding me back on one.
