Still no announcement about the release date but Cosina announced this specification / exterior material treatment change for 35/1.5 Type I today:
-----------
Regarding the Voigtlander brand NOKTON Vintage Line 35mm F1.5 Aspherical type I VM announced on October 14, 2022, we would like to inform you of the specification change.
Initially, we planned to release the exterior finish with anodized aluminum treatment, but as a result of reconsidering the product styling and product concept, we decided to change the exterior treatment to matte black paint and release it. . There is no change in the price.
"We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to customers who have already placed orders, as well as those who are considering the product, but we ask for your understanding."
In addition, there is no specification change for Type II.

I think the release date will not be in early part of November since it hasn't been announced yet. Usually the dates are announced at least ~2 weeks prior to actual release. ...Show more → Fred Miranda wrote:
So, both "Black Paint". The difference is that the Type I is "matte" and Type II is "glossy". Correct?
Availability perhaps mid Nov?
In that case I think I'd just go for the Type 2 black paint, since both will 'brass' so might as well see actual brass rather than less sightly aluminum.
I do wonder if there is a higher cost implication of anodization vs. painting and if this is a cost savings move to increase profit margin as a hedge against projected further weakening of the JPY.

It does sound like a downgrade. Not sure.
The lighter weight is still a plus though.

I'm still sticking to Type I with my preorder as well since the weight is the most important differentiator for me. Type II brass versions + mount adapter weight wouldn't have much of a weight advantage over my native 35mm options at all.
This year I've been getting into MS-Optics glass again (got 28/2 III, 35/1.3 II, 50/1.3 Sonnetar, 50/3.5 Xenomax so far) and I'm really enjoying shooting with those lenses and the tiny lens sizes & very low weight is a big part of the enjoyment. That's made me appreciate small and light lenses even more.

Still waiting for release date announcement from Cosina (the announcement should be happening any day now I think).
I haven't seen any early reviews yet.
As usual, this new CV will continue as a narrow or "longer" 35mm lens. I recall doing multiple controlled tests with many 35mm's--the RX1 and 35i are wide, the CV's run long.
I’ve always been fond of slightly long 35s like the C-Biogon on rangefinders, and am looking forward to seeing how this 36.215/1.5 reviews.

Map Camera has a generic release date of November 2022. So, perhaps not too long - at most three weeks.
BTW, I now get a pop-up on the Map Camera site for Buyee - a purchasing and forwarding service. I'm tempted to give it a try given the very attractive JPY prices for various Voigtlander and Zeiss lenses... The downside is you will have to pay the 10% consumption tax (included in the list price), plus modest handling and shipping fees. But the price listed by Map for the 35/1.5 brass version is JPY 106,020 = USD ~725. Aluminum is JPY 97,020 = USD ~660.

It's surprising that B&H priced Type I and II the same, 899 USD, since they are priced differently in Japan and Europe.
Still waiting for Cosina to announce the official release date... I suppose the release will be quite late in November at this point.
Sometimes B&H Photo makes mistakes on pricing but they honor it. I'm not sure if Type I and Type II will be the same price.
If someone is interested in the Black Paint or Silver Brass, it's wise to pre-order now.

Yes, the generic release date target "November" was announced at the time when Cosina first announced the lenses on 10/14, but usually they announce specific release date at least ~2 weeks prior to the date and there's also the 65/2 APO for Z that's waiting for the release date to be announced. Looks like both new releases will be towards late Nov, but if Cosina has some trouble keeping the targets they could still announce release date postponement to December for either new release too...
I'm eager to get the 35/1.5 soon so I hope the release dates get announced this week
Yes, with current level of JPY it might be very nice if you can buy directly from Map Camera with such purchasing & forwarding service I hope this method works!

I hope so. Unfortunately the lens I really want - the 28/2 type II, appears to be out of stock. Maybe I'll try it first with a lower cost, lower risk purchase, such as perhaps the VM40/2.8.

We have the dates now. 11/24 for both VM 35/1.5 and the same date for APO 65/2 Z. It's unusual for Cosina to release more than 1 new lenses on the same exact date. I was expecting them to separate the release dates by 1 week or so as that's what they've done in the past but no complaints

If someone orders either of the black versions and happens to own a black version of the 21mm type II, 28mm type II or 90mm APO, I‘d be really interested in how the finish compares. As usual with Cosina they seem to be a bit inconsistent with the „matte black“ finish

I have the 28/2 II black paint (brass) version and the black 90/2.8 VM. I think the black paint on 28/2 II is shiny and looks similar to the 35/1.5 II black (brass) version based on product pictures at least. I've pre-ordered the Type I matte black of 35/1.5 this time so I can compare to my 28/2 II and 90/2.8 when I receive the new lens. I should get it on 24th.
