Any clue if Leica was able to resolve the QC issue with this lens?
On the LUF there seems to be folks getting lenses with lens dates in November and December and not experiencing problems. I was on the site about an hour ago and the post for this lens had slipped to the 4th page with last post around January 2. I am not sure because I am interested to but I need more confirmation. I looked at a lens posted here a month ago or so and questioned the date and explained the issue by text. They were not aware. They tested the lens for a few days and ended sending it to Leica because of issues. Date on the box was a July date if I remember correctly. Some think the Leica is back to shipping with the problem resolved.

The main issue was with the aperture mechanism. Correct?
FLE II arrived today. A couple quick thoughts. Sorry if this is old news. I didn’t see much online about this lens so figured I’d share.
1. I like silver lenses!
2. I like the looks of rectangular hood better, but the v2 is much smaller than the v1 w/hood when retracted.
3. They block about the same of the viewfinder. I’d actually say the v1 with the hood blocks less because of the cutout.
4. It is a twist out hood. Not the same as the 50 lux pull and then twist. How durable it will be I have no idea.
5. At f/1.4, vignetting appears about the same. Seems it’s worse on the v1 in some corners and worse on the v2 in others. To me it’s a wash. Someone else with more patience can test for that.
6. Close focus is very nice. Was my main reason for purchasing. It was one of my favorite things about the 35 SL lens.
7. Long focus throw. At MFD, the focus tab is at the 10 o’clock position! There is a noticeable detent at .7m for the rangefinder.
8. Build date is Jan 2023. No issues with aperture blades (yet ).
9. I didn't check for rendering differences stopped down yet.

I just ordered this lens, the mfd photos posted by @lifeandmylens pushed me over the edge. Had a zeiss 35 distagon. really loved that lens but im looking forward to the much closer focusing...and more compact size. will report back with some images.

Curious to those who own either V1 or V2 of this lens, do you focus recompose (for rule of 1/3) and encounter problems, or it just works?
I've been on the fence on jumping to FLE (as it's coming down in price) or go straight to ver. 2, but for the most part I don't center my subject, always curious how it's behaving in real life for recomposing.
In related experience, I still have my RX1R and recently took it out for a spin and since I so used to rangefinder focusing and composing, I naturally focus and recompose and non of the shot actually nail the focus upon zooming in (and hate moving the focus point all the time). I never find it to be a problem with my 35mm summicron asph v1, in comparison, at all aperture, any distance.
ADDENDUM: I've also since studying the bokeh of the FLE again and they indeed looked harsh coming from the Summicron ASPH, I'll probably not care about it if it's my first 35mm lens but I'll most probably stick to the cron. But for educational purpose, still wish to what's the experience of other people using this lens.

In the same Distagon boat - looking for a more compact 35mm, testing if the change is worth the extra $$$.

The lens got here 2 days ago, I made a video on it. I don't know how to upload pics here yet. Hopefully a youtube link allowed here
mainly just highlighting the difference between 40cm vs 70cm. It looks like optically the lens is the same as the previous 35 summilux so there's plenty of info out there on colors etc.
In a nutshell, if you want to be able to focus closer get the new leica. There were many occasions with my zeiss that I had to get up out of my chair to take the picture I wanted. I don't see that being an obstacle anymore.
Also I brought the 35 distagon and 75 summarit on a trip to miami. The photos looked noticeably different when changing lenses at the same scene. maybe that'll play a role in your decision.
I've had 4 voightlanders, 2 zeiss and 2 leica lenses. After all those I only have 2 leica lenses left. The voightlanders all underwhelmed me. The zeiss distagon was my favorite of the non leica glass. the biogon was great too but 2.8 wasn't fast enough imo. just my 2 cents.
I got so used to the zeiss, that this summilux almost feels too small. On paper it doesnt seem much smaller but in hand it's a big difference. I got used to the momentum of the zeiss when handling my camera. it's gone with the summilux. almost feels like there's no lens on the camera.
I plan on just keeping the summilux on my m11, so I wanted all the features
haven't had enough time to really test it yet but I'll line a model up soon and do a proper shoot soon. I've actually got a shoot in a few hours I'll bring it to, but it's just studio so that's not very exciting. I have an on location gig sunday that might be cool.
