mainly just highlighting the difference between 40cm vs 70cm. It looks like optically the lens is the same as the previous 35 summilux so there's plenty of info out there on colors etc.
In a nutshell, if you want to be able to focus closer get the new leica. There were many occasions with my zeiss that I had to get up out of my chair to take the picture I wanted. I don't see that being an obstacle anymore.
Also I brought the 35 distagon and 75 summarit on a trip to miami. The photos looked noticeably different when changing lenses at the same scene. maybe that'll play a role in your decision.
I've had 4 voightlanders, 2 zeiss and 2 leica lenses. After all those I only have 2 leica lenses left. The voightlanders all underwhelmed me. The zeiss distagon was my favorite of the non leica glass. the biogon was great too but 2.8 wasn't fast enough imo. just my 2 cents.
I got so used to the zeiss, that this summilux almost feels too small. On paper it doesnt seem much smaller but in hand it's a big difference. I got used to the momentum of the zeiss when handling my camera. it's gone with the summilux. almost feels like there's no lens on the camera.
I plan on just keeping the summilux on my m11, so I wanted all the features
haven't had enough time to really test it yet but I'll line a model up soon and do a proper shoot soon. I've actually got a shoot in a few hours I'll bring it to, but it's just studio so that's not very exciting. I have an on location gig sunday that might be cool.
When you do have time to do a thorough testing of the 35/1.4 FLE 2022 and your M11 would you please check on shutter shock around 1/125-180 sec (300% view helps) using the mechanical shutter, thanks.

Cool video! Where did you get that skin for your M11? I had one like that for my Xpro3, but that seller does not offer for Leicas. TY!
thank you, It's an alpha guard skin. really good quality, I vouch for it
I just pm'd them that you were interested so here's a code anyone can use: WELCOMEALPHA
supposed to be 10% off.

Hey Doug, absolutely. Would be happy to. I'm not familiar with shutter shock so I just want to make sure I do a proper test. If I put the m11 on a tripod and set a 2 second timer so my hands aren't physically causing any shake. Then take a few exposures between 1/125-180, I should see some kind of vibrations when zoomed in 300%? I guess around 5.6 would be a safe aperture for this kind of thing?
btw speaking of shutters, when using electronic shutter on the m11 I noticed some rippling across the frames in lower light situations. maybe the new firmware update resolves this but I only use mechanical shutter ever since noticing that.

Yes, tripod & self timer does the trick. For a complete test you may want to set the shutter dial to 1/60, 1/125, Lightening Bolt (1/180), & 1/250 and f/4 or 5.6 sounds good. Set Auto ISO for proper exposure and I'd focus with the back screen rather than using the rangefinder just to be accurate and avoid any possible focus shift. On further thought you may also want to take the same photos with electronic shutter (ES) for a direct comparison because ES should have zero shutter shock.
I ask because on my M10M & R (in Live View mode only) I get shutter shock at 1/180 with my 50 Lux Asph. That doesn't surprise me with Leica not providing EFCS. Why they don't have EFCS like every other camera brand is beyond me.
Electronic shutter, well my M10's don't offer it but I wouldn't use it if they did. There are just too many uncontrollable artifacts with lighting and movement unless the sensor is stacked (Sony A1, Canon R3 etc.).

I know shutter shock is aperture irrelevant, but what aperture do u see it the most at with your 50 lux @ 1/180? I can check with mine + M10r. Also what distance is your subject? Infinity? MFD?

The sharper the photo the more apparent the shutter shock. So f4, 5.6, 8 are good one's to test. Near or far doesn't matter, I'm looking at known targets I use for my own lens tests @ 300%. Tripod mounted, self timer of course.
I don't use Live View much. When I do it's 1/250 and over, or 1/125 and under, so it's not a big deal. But if I did get the 35 Lux FLE 2022 and wanted to use the close focus feature then Live View becomes mandatory and I may need to navigate around different shutter speeds. I would just like a hint what they are before I spend the Big $.

Do you encounter focusing issues using rangefinder so far? Hope you get a great copy and Leica has sorted out the focusing issue like the one I encountered with my copy(ies).
I still have the itch of getting another one because of it’s close focusing feature. For now I’m pretty much content with VM 35mm 1.5 for close focusing, but there’s still that 10cm difference in MFD vs FLE 2.
Iam boring. I ordered the Obsidian Black set for my M10-P. I want it to be even more stealth than it is. Actually what i am really after is to preserve the OEM Black Chrome finish for resale in the next year or two (or next week because I am weak) when I upgrade.

I've read that a new M camera is coming out next year in 2024 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the M camera system introduction.

I have heard that as well. If I can hold out that long we'll see. But knowing myself I'll have an M11 sooner than later (almost made an offer on one today), and then maybe have to upgrade again when the Anniversary Model comes out. What I would really like an M11 all the bugs fixed and really good IBIS.

Yes, I'd be interested in those specs also. 2024 seems too soon for ibis to happen in an M11P but I'm happy to be surprised.

The key to a good application is to not eat fried chicken while you are doing it.
Where is everyone ordering? As far as I can tell, the U.S. dealers seem to all be on backorder (for the black version). I've signed up for notifications for all of them, but it looks like it'll be awhile.

Something tells me that it'll be an M11-P special edition of sorts. Not sure they're ready to introduce an entirely new camera so soon.

Apologize if this posts twice. I'm having trouble replying.
1. Doug, I did the test. Got zero shutter shock. Used live view as well. I usually shoot full manual but I did auto iso for the test. It's funny each exposure was different.
2. I haven't had any issues with my rangefinder focusing and the new 35. Or any of my other lenses for that matter. The box on my 35mm said it was manufactures in January 13th, 2023. I'm guessing that's a safe date for others shopping around.
3. I got mine from a guy I found after doing a lot of research. His name is Tim Lei ; https://www.facebook.com/tim.lei.378
I order my m11 from him as well, came brand new from the Leica store with a handwritten letter and a coffee table book. Also my 75mm summarit came from Tim. I reached out to him a while back asking if he had any of the new 35 summilux in stock. He pm'd me last week that he just got the 35mm and asked if I wanted it, so it was an instant impulse buy. Btw I paid for it on saturday morning it was at my house on Tuesday. I am also on the bhphoto waiting lists for the lens.
I just saw Tim listed the new 35mm f2, with the 30cm mfd as well. I'd rather have 1.4 than the extra 10cm.
I believe Tim still has the 35mm summilux 2022 in silver available as well.
Check his facebook page out, he's got a ton of really nice Leica gear constantly coming through. I need to block him because I've spent a lot of money in the past few months...
