I bought a D80 back in the day when they were very new but found the IQ rather awful compared to later models. Processability in general was limited with blocked shadows, very little highlight range, and general harshness/crudeness. I suppose the CFAs of most sensors were stronger back then or people like the nostalgic look.
Maybe there were other Nikon CCD cameras with better IQ, but I cannot find that any were ever FX.

Cool. Never heard of the d100 until today.

Wow. It was a workhorse along with the D1 series back in the day. Every Nikon wedding shooter who was worth his salt was using one of the two about twenty years ago.

Never been a fan of non CCD Nikon colors or their camera layout so it could just be a matter of preference, and why I prefer Canon. The only Nikon I gushed over was the d700 back in the late 2000's.

Nikon used Sony CCD sensors for most of their DX CCD cameras. But the D700 and the D3 series used Nikon's own sensors. The D700 has the best color rendition among all Nikon CMOS bodies.

Yea, the d700 was closer to the 5d2 in tonality but with much better AF, low light, and DR.

The D700 has much better build quality than the D800/D810/D850.

Here's one snap from my D200 today.

It didn't have video like the 5d2 at the time, and that was the deciding factor for me at least. Video on a FF camera at that quality was a break through.

I was shooting video on RED rigs at the time for DSLRs had too many limitations in video department.

Thank you for your effort 🙂👍.

My problem is that the D2X- profiles aren’t listed in my Version 2.4.9…. 😥.

Update: found them 😃👍. Had to customize the detail view…😊.

Update II: the camera doesn’t find the profiles when I try to load them up (yes, I know how to copy/place them into the CF card 😊. Tried both copy directly into the card, and via the Finder.

They're available. Just download and install the current NX Studio and Picture Control Utility 2 on your computer.

In the NX Studio, you will be able to select one of the D2X profiles from the second dropdown box in the "Picture Control" tab under the "Basic Edit Palette tab, and you to change the Picture Control's first dropdown box from "The Latest Picture Control" to "Camera compatible". Here's a screen shot.

But if you just want to apply a D2X profile look to jpegs in camera, you'll need to upload those three D2X profiles to your D700.

To do that, open

Sorry you're having all these problems. It seems like the original links for downloading are no longer available. However, all is not lost. I found one in Nikon Asia(not translate-friendly) website. The files are still available on Nikon's download server.

https://www.nikonimgsupport.com/na/NSG_article?articleNo=000027028&configured=1&lang=zh_TW

Towards the bottom is a link to download D700__M.exe (158 KB).

Or from the download server: http://download.nikonimglib.com/archive1/Tfwge00SJ9aI00FesmS04QrLUF21/D700__M.exe

Loading instructions are here: http://web.archive.org/web/20110224082939/http://nikonimglib.com/opc/manual/en/opc_win_en_ABF.html

Summary,

- Run the .exe file
- It will create a NIKON folder with 3 .NOP files
- Copy the NIKON folder(and contents) into the the CF card root folder.
- Put in camera
- Go to Shooting menu -> Manage Picture Controls -> Load/Save -> Copy from card
- Select each and press OK.

If the Picture controls are already in the camera, it will say no picture controls found.
If the NIKON folder is in another folder, it will say no picture controls found.

Good luck.
